I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Bill Bryson’s excellent “The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid”, his autobiographical account of his early life in Iowa.

The recent story of attacks on fire fighters has added even more fuel to the fire that the idea of society being on the brink of collapse. The problem is quite clearly delinquent youths - but that phenomenon has its roots in a more widespread change in society.
