Brown Snubs GMB

Gordon Brown has decided not to address the GMB conference.

Abdal Ullah for Wimbledon?

Abdal is an elected Councillor and Cabinet member in Tower Hamlets. He has been short listed as a prospective Parliamentary candidate for Wimbledon CLP. This is a Tory marginal.
He has always been very positive and constructive about trade unions. He’s a hard working canvasser and campaigner. Pity he is in the GMB.

Leadership Election - Join the Labour Party: Get a Vote!

Quick post on the email no doubt many of us received today from Peter Watt, the Labour Party General Secretary, urging us to encourage Labour Party supporters to join the Party by June 1 and still get a vote for the Labour Party Leadership and Deputy Leadership. When I told him that trade union members can pay £1 per month he was astonished and said he would consider joining.

A Spook in the Ranks?

Different story from this week's Tribune about a former senior GMB official who is now a Tory councillor and claims to have worked for the intelligence services for 30 years. A period which included Grunwick, the Miners Strike and Wapping.

War of the lanyards

Which side are you on? At Labour conference 2006, are you for Sky's sponsored white lanyards, or the GMB's red one?

Portland PR Proxies Skirmish

Tim Allan's Portland PR is under attack from the GMB for assisting ASDA in it's aggressive union busting strategy.  Nick Brown is leading a parliamentary crusade against Portland by trying to expose the firm's links to government ministers.

21 questions from Labour MPs in two months must be some kind of record.

Tim Allan is of course a Downing Street favourite and Alastair Campbell's former deputy.  Fascinating.
