Police will harass yobs in new plan to tackle antisocial behaviour
Thousands of yobs are to be photographed and videoed in big-brother style police operations to tackle persistent antisocial behaviour, the Home Secretary announced today.
Suspects will be “harassed” by officers visiting them day and night and issued with repeated warnings about their behaviour under the drive to deal with a hard core of offenders who persist with yobbish behaviour on estates.

The Tories have apparently reported Jacqui Smith for her annoucement of extra Polcie to fight terror today, saying that it break electoral rules.

After reading this piece on Labourhome and writing a (poorly spelled) but long and ranting comment, I have put my thoughts together and written a bit more extensively on the Guardian's Commentisfree site.

An interesting article on the AOL site today. John Reid is to begin a consultation process and publish draft proposals to stop convicted criminals writing their memoirs (and presumably profiting from them).

So what is the issue here? Whilst I can see how emotive factors such as the Ian Huntley murders could be a prime mover, as progressives should Labour members and MPs be supporting this action?
New rules will mean innocent defendants will go to prison!
The Government has passed more than 40 pieces of criminal legislation since 1997.
