Gordon should lead from the front, even if it means defeat in Glenrothes

Just a day after John MacDougall sadly died, the journalists are already preparing their talking points for the by-election expected in October. Already it’s “make or break” for Gordon Brown we’re told, just as we were about both the Crewe and Glasgow East by-elections.

It’s nonsense of course. Just as those by-elections didn’t result in Gordon packing his bags, nor will Glenrothes. But another common refrain is also being written by the Tory press. It can be summarised by the question “where is Gordon?”

From HoT to HaH: A Pair of Utterly Meaningless By-Elections

Mark Twain once remarked that the wonderful thing about science was the remarkable return of conjecture from a small investment of fact. The same goes for this pair of meaningless by-elections with pundits great and small allowing their analysis to run rings around the limited facts to hand. Actually it's simple. Our vote stayed at home.

Fighting the Good Fight in Shadwell - Home of diss-Respect

Went off today with Newham Labour Party comrades to help out in the Shadwell By-Election, Tower Hamlets. One of the Respect Councillors for the ward resigned suddenly a few weeks ago claiming that Respect was “bickering, immature, self serving and militant”. No surprise there then. See action photo of Labour Party activists outside Limehouse DLR station planning campaign activities (middle Denise Jones the current leader of the Council, right is the candidate former Labour leader of Council, Michael Keith).

Help in Southall

After the sad death of Piara Khabra, there will be a By-election in Southall on 19th July. Here are the details of the Labour Campaign centre if you are able to help.

East Barnet by-election

Well, the result of the East Barnet by-election is in and - surprise, surprise - the claims by the Lib Dems who posted on this forum that they were the only ones who could beat the Tories have once again been exposed as a pack of lies.

Barnet (council) by election

There is a by election in Barnet, due ot the death of a Tory coucnillor. (So upset were they by the loss that they anounced the by election details on the day of the funeral.)

Anyway, Barnet Labour are campaigning hard to have a good showing in the by election and
have:

Phoning going on Monday to Thursday evenings at  38 Church Lane N2 and 104 East Barnet Road EN4 offices from 6 - 8.30pm Monday to Thursday

and:

Delivering and canvassing/blitzing starting from 104 East Barnet Road on both Saturday and Sunday for the next three weekends (10am and 1pm on Saturday and 10.45am and 2pm on Sunday). The weather on Sunday looks good so we'd really like to flood the area (with people!).
