Anyone got a copy of Gordon's e-mail this morning?
I have accidentally deleted mine but I thought it was quite good.
Brown "in denial"
How can Brown can still be optomistic and sit in no.10 when his chancelor says we're having the worst economy crisis in sixty years? How can he be defiant when the country is at a point when it needs leadership the most. Is it because of the Labour civil war?
If it is to do with the Labour civil war or not, he needs to run the country properly. Not only that, but he fails to look at how servere the problems actually are.

Actually, Clarke has a point.
Do you know something, ladies and gents? The last few months have made me ashamed, without putting too fine a point on things, to be a Labour member. Ignorance, Indifference and sheer bloody-minded incompetence have typified the last year or so and Charles Clarke is right, if we don't change radically, the next election will frankly be a trainwreck.
Mr Clarke
Ex-home secretary says (I quote), he would "urge a leadership contest". He also said, there are "five or six people of quality" who wold make good candidates. He then went on to say, "many, many, many, people" shared his concerns.
So does, "Labour face utter destruction at the next election"? I thinks so because I'm Conservative, but could this make more of Labour think about what Mr Clarke said?

But I think the real question is; Is Gordon Brown going to keep his job? Please speak your mind on that one.
What do you think and what would you like to see?
Is it not just a fight against my party but your own?
And who do you think would be stronger, Brown or someone else?
Stamp Duty
Labour have now introduced stamp duty on properties costing 175 000 or less. That would mean half of all properties sold would have stamp duty on them.
YouGov poll - Some Analysis
Oh dear, oh dear. Another day another massive deficit with yougov. But I want to look at some of the underlying statistics that show the parties what people are talking about.
Could things get better for Gordon? My top 3 suggestions for the autumn fight back
The successes of Team GB at the Beijing Olympics have ensured that Gordon's summer has been a good deal better than it might have been. If he can keep his nerve and if he is prepared to grasp a few nettles then the golden rays of summer may just shine through to the autumn and beyond.
Here are 3 popular and populist things that Gordon should, in my humble estimation, seriously consider implementing as part of an autumn fightback:
1. He should go back to the future and rediscover the radicalism that as Chancellor saw him slap a £5bn windfall tax on privatised utilities in 1997 to fund job schemes. Yes Gordon you really should introduce a windfall tax on the energy companies. Such a levy would demonstrate whose side we are on and draw some important red lines between ourselves and the Tories.
2. Announce a Royal Commission into the effects of academic selection on standards and social exclusion (similar to the one held in Northern Ireland - which recommending the ending of selection at age 11). This would force the Tories to defend existing selection and challenge Cameron's claim that the Tories are the true party of progress.
3. Follow the Welsh and put an end to hospital car park charges - believe me when I tell you that this would be very well received in many parts of the nation and would give a concrete example of how fairness needs to be at the centre of public policy.
So what do you think? Too simplistic? Too radical or not radical enough?

It's the economy, stupid!
Today the CPI inflation hit 4.4% and Phillip Hammond has already been banging on about Brown losing his prudent and competent tag blah blah blah.
Tories 426, Labour 166, Libs 29
The latest Yougov poll is out and PBC disusses the results here :

In a general election base on Con 46, Lab 26, Lib 17 - the Tory majority would be 206. Think what policies they could get though with that!

Stamp duty - what a ba*$s-up
The stamp-duty policy is one of the worst handled policies I have seen for some time, and that is sayng something. First it was being considered, now it apparently isn't, although it is one of a "number of options" being looked at.
How is it that this has turned into a (I hate this word) "dither" by Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling?

Hypocrites and Milburn
The Telegraph has published an article about how the Miliband/Milburn suggestion has derailed Milibands leadership campaign.
Leaked Blair Memo
Blair slams 'vacuous' Brown in leaked note

· Memo escalates Labour's civil war
"Tony Blair accused Gordon Brown of generating 'hubris and vacuity' in a devastating private memo analysing his mistakes, which last night threatened to blow a hole in the heart of government.
The former prime minister believed his successor had presided over a 'lamentable confusion of tactics and strategy', attacking Blair's record instead of building on it and failing to spell out an agenda for the future, according to the scathing note penned after last September's chaotic Labour party conference. Such tactics would not win the next election, he concluded.

Such tactics would not win the next election, he concluded.
The note leaked to the Mail on Sunday newspaper now threatens to trigger open warfare within New Labour, with its emergence so soon after David Miliband's broadside against the Prime Minister which was seen as part of an orchestrated plot to destabilise Brown by those loyal to his predecessor.
Why it can only be Miliband
There is one reason why Miliband is the only person who can credibly challenge Brown from within the cabinet.
MPs call for Miliband sacking
I personally wasn't sure what to make of David Miliband's Guardian article and then his press conference yesterday afternoon. Part of me wonders whether the media make too much of all this - especially given that the summer often turns up plenty of slow news days. They've got a few more headlines out of this one - with two Labour MPs calling for Miliband to be sacked.
Is it time for a put-up or shut-up call from Brown
Does he need a John Major style 1995 leadership challenge to end speculation and regain control?
Unions drop secondary action call
Kevin Maguire is reporting that the various Trade Unions involved in Labour's Nation Policy Forum have dropped their call for a return for secondary action.
Brown shouldn't go down alone
Whoever it is, the next leader of the Labour Party is probably a current cabinet member. If things keep going as they are, and we’re allowed to slump to a record defeat – Gordon’s shouldn’t be the only career to pay the price.
Thatcher to be given State Funeral
At first you think it's a strange joke but if today's Daily Mail is anything to go by, Brown is set to agree to giving Thatcher a state funeral when she dies.
