Line up a 1,000 trade union cannons

Excellent post by trade union blogger Johninnit from the TUC congress in Brighton. He makes four predictions about how unions (or at any rate unionists) will be using Web 2.0 by 2010. He addressed a fringe on this subject with Eric Lee who helps edit Labourstart. This post should also be interesting for the Labour Party and its activists.

1st - He believes that it will empower the grass roots and points to the 13,000 users of the successful TUC network unionreps.org.uk who share advice and resources. Globalisation could also encourage unions to form connections internationally. There is a General Motors Workers’ blog where GM car plants across the world connect with each other.

Online Campaigns for the Deputy Leadership

I'm doing my dissertation about the online campaigns of the Labour Party Deputy Leadership candidates and was hoping some of you wouldn't mind spending a minute filling in an online survey about it (only 11 questions and takes hardly any time)

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=879073906621.

The survey is completely anonymous and no results will be revealed until after the election is finished. And even then it will only be in my university dissertation...

Irish election hots up!

I'm a keen follower of the general election taking place in Ireland on the 24th of May. Take a look at this very funny video of the leader of the main opposition party, Enda Kenny of Fine Gael, being mixed up with a bit of X-Factor!

Shouldn't we try and make a version with Cameron?

The truth about the Iraq war

Very interesting take on US perspectives on the Iraq war. The Tony Blair interview in particular throws further light on the subject.

Plea from Kentish Town

On 7th December, Sam McBratney will be defending in a council by-election the wafer-thin majority of 15 votes that Labour enjoys in Kentish Town Ward, Camden.

Sam has recorded a request for help here. Please do get in touch and arrange to pop down to Kentish Town to help in this by-election.

Sam's phone number is 07798 621 293 and his email address is s.mcbratney@blueyonder.co.uk

Comment is free: In defence of Sion

I pitched up a defence of Sion Simon on the Guardian's Comment is free website if anyone's interested.

Sion Simon and D-Cam's wife

Birmingham MP Sion Simon's getting a lot of flack over his spoof video portraying a man in a baseball cap called "Dave" offering his wife if you'll just believe he's a normal guy.

Renewing Labour online

I have written a long note on my blog about building online networks for Labour members and supporters.
