Banned Tory trolls

I have recently banned a couple of Tory trolls from this site, a process that entails deleting every contribution they have ever made.

One of those is "Letter from a Tory", who has made his frustration clear here.

Tories are suffered on these pages for as long as they are polite and constructive and I'd be grateful if readers would alert me if they feel contributors are exceeding their welcome.

Many thanks

Tories in row over 'cash for influence.'

If a company partly funds the private office of a Shadow Minister and if the said company has a direct interest in the portfolio of the said Shadow Minister is there not a potential conflict of interest? I think the simple answer to this question is YES.

The leading Tories who have taken money from various sources are as follows:

George Osborne
The shadow Chancellor was found to have broken the rules by failing to declare £500,000 which had been channelled through Tory HQ from donors to run his office.

Alan Duncan
The shadow Business Secretary received funds from Ian Taylor, the president and chief executive of Vitol oil company, who is a former colleague of Mr Duncan.

Grant Shapps
The housing spokesman took tens of thousands of pounds in cash from five companies linked to his portfolio.

Andrew Lansley
The shadow Health Secretary received funds from London Secure Services and Julian Schild, who owned a medical equipment company, Huntleigh Technology, the largest manufacturer of NHS beds, until last year.

Jeremy Hunt
The shadow Culture Secretary, whose brief includes tourism, received funds from the chairman of the Conservative Tourism Taskforce, John Lewis, also a former chairman of the British Tourism Authority.

Are The Tories The True Progressives?

So David Cameron today claims that the Tories are the true progressive party in the UK - but why then is Tory education spokeman today blaming progressive education policies for letting down British children?

Do you think the Tories even talk to each other any more?

Ramblings of a Tory MP

There is Mad, there is Bad, and then there is Nad.

Another day another bizarre rant and ramble from Nadine Dorries:

Tories get a kicking on economic competence

The Tories are failing to win over the electorate on the crucial issue of the economy says Will Parbury

Tories report Home Secretary for announcing more Police

The Tories have apparently reported Jacqui Smith for her annoucement of extra Polcie to fight terror today, saying that it break electoral rules.

Is conservative home really that dry?

Why are there so many tories commenting on everything here?

Mirror Video: Cameron's Cycling Shame

cameronTwo great videos from the Daily Mirror in recent days. One of Gordon Brown giving a great short speech to open the Black Britannia exhibition. And another of David Cameron cycling wrong-way up a one way street and thru red traffic lights on his way to the House!

Ok, Hello! Politics

Mr. Cameron – I didn’t want to see your family on the news. I’m sure they’re perfectly lovely and you’re completely dedicated to them but this was a poor decision –not least because of the reason you gave.

Conservatives using council tax for propaganda purposes?

Conservative council spend £100,000 on a mailshot publicising their budget policies, even through they knew they had no hope of passing the budget as didn't have the votes to get it through

Did Nick Robinson follow a Tory press release?

Nick Robinson's blogI've reported that the BBC misunderstand and misreported Alistair Darling's commons answer on Northern Rock nationalisation, and had to make an apology of sorts on Today. It now turns out a Tory press release with this truncated Hansard quote was issued 2.5 hours before Nick Robinson used a similar quote on Sunday night on Radio 5. The following morning Today ran with it heavily as well, as did The Daily Politics. Could Nick Robinson have followed the Tory press release without proper independent research?

What are Cameron's Conservatives for?

Gordon Brown stood for the leadership of the Labour party on a platform that argued that the renewal that was undertaken in order to gain power needed to be repeated if Labour was to keep power. The fact is that by successfully occupying the centre ground, by modernising and reaching out beyond its own activists Labour ended up turning the Tories into a replica of what it used to be itself – a party with a narrow base, a party obsessed about the wrong things and a party seen as old fashioned and out of touch. To his credit David Cameron understands all of this and it is why he is busily re-branding and re-positioning today’s modern Tory party. Cameron knows that to be taken seriously he and his party need to be seen as the future, to be heralded as the bearers of hope and deliverers of change. The problem for Cameron is that the promotion of such a message takes the Tories into unchartered waters. Why? Because the history of the Tory party is centred on the core belief that politics can't change people’s lives.

Can you ever imagine a time when a future Tory manifesto included a passage about the strength of our common endeavour or about ensuring wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few? Me neither.

Wanted: someone to take on Lord Ashcroft

Why doesn't someone make a formal complaint about Ashcroft? He apparently isn't on the electoral register anywhere, his companies are a web of international intrigue (some British, some not British) and the Tories appear to be lying about his tax and residence status.

Ashcroft's ill-gotten gains which may have been illegally donated to the Tories are funding nasty, personal attacks against some of our brightest and best candidates.

Plus he's paying millions in to the Tories nationally.

If someone is the majority (or outright) owner of a company and therefore has the power to direct that company to make a political donation, surely that should be seen in the same way as Abrahams' donations via proxy or Hain's imaginary think tank.

Otherwise why doesn't everyone who wants to make a secret donation just register an imaginary company and make the donations through that...

HOLD ON A MINUTE - THAT'S JUST WHAT LOTS OF THE TORIES HAVE DONE....

SWP: Respect Councillor Joins..... Tories

Would you “adam and eve it”, One of the Tower Hamlets gang of 4 who split from Galloway’s Jamaati Respect to form SWP/Respect has now defected again and joined the Conservative Party.

Cllr Ahmed Hussain was one of the very few Bengali card carrying “members” of the SWP. Mugs or what?

Poor old Oli (Rahman) – Hat Tip to Ted from East London Advertiser

Why is it that absolutely anything that Galloway touches eventually falls to pieces?

Young Scots Tory in master & slave row forced to quit Charles Kennedy's rector campaign

The young Scots Tory who dressed up as a slave at a fancy dress party and pretended to be flogged by a Tory friend dressed as a slave master is ditched from Charles Kennedy's bid to become rector of the University of Glasgow.

Conway affair shows that Cameron is weak, weak, weak!

Derek Conway is surely guilty of behaviour that is incompatible with being an MP. Despite this David Cameron took just a few hours to decide what to do with Mr Conway - nothing.

Weak, weak, weak.

Why should my pension scheme fund the Tories?

Good question. Ever since it came out from Labour & Capital” blog, that the fund managers Fidelity have recently given the Conservative Party £415,000; I have been contacted by furious UNISON members whose pension fund employ Fidelity.
