Zimbabwe - Rivals agree deal
It seems the murderous despot (Mugabe) is trying to come in from the cold. Apparently, Mbeki has succeeded in negotiating a deal between de facto president Tsvangirai and Mugabe. The deal is expected to be made public on Monday.
Labourhome to grill Miliband
I will be interviewing the Foreign Secretary David Miliband this Saturday at Labour's spring conference. millibands grasp on foreign affairs
The trouble with Gordon is that he can't do Foreign Policy, and neither can Milliband. In a way its a good thing. It means that Gordon can concentrate a bit more on sorting out our little domestic problems ie like starting more house building, road taxing and finally, finally getting our kids reading, instead of prancing about the world. But in other ways it makes GB look pretty foolish. Peace in the Middle East is a no no, not that is until the international community cuts Israel down to size and dictates the actual terms of peace.

Championing foreign development
Yesterday's announcement from the Prime Minister on the launch of an aid delivery watch group/dream-team (Bill Gates, Kofi Annan and Bob Geldof) wasn't a huge surprise. Ardent Blairites (myself) see this as quite a necessary evocation of the Labour Party (and by extension - our government's) championing of the holy trifecta of aid, trade and debt. It's what we do, and it's what the Tories don't. Simple.
