BNP Fight Night in Leeds

Brilliant first hand account about the master race representatives on earth and their current internal “difficulties” in searchlight. A must read link.

However, usual health warning about not getting complacent for next year’s local elections.

Rats have a habit of surviving sinking ships.

Cruddas Calls the Cops

I was really pleased to see that yesterday Labour's Jon Cruddas has called on the police to investigate the fascist BNP for criminal behaviour.  Cruddas has provided them with a twenty page dossier detailing illegal acts by the BNP leadership.  Speaking in the Commons yesterday Jon slammed the BNP for their criminal behaviour.

We need to keep the BNP out of City Hall in 2008

Today London Assembly Member, Murad Qureshi AM, highlights the need to get out the vote in London in May 2008 to keep the BNP out of City Hall.  Qureshi is one of only two - both Labour - ethnic minority members of the London Assembly; the other is Jennette Arnold AM.

BNP in crisis

The BNP is today in deep crisis after the expulsion from the party of two of its national officers. According to a notice posted on Sunday 9 December on the revamped BNP website, Sadie Graham, the party's group development officer, and Kenny Smith, in charge of administration, have been "removed from their posts with immediate effect on the grounds of gross misconduct and now face disciplinary charges over alleged offences against the BNP Constitution and Code of Conduct".

BNP attacking Westmorland and Lonsdale

Dear Comrades

The BNP have now started leafleting Kendal, in the consitituency I am standing.  They are doing as they always do leafleting for support.  This has been widely done.  I ask for your support.

Sleepwalking Towards Fascism

Will Parbury is alarmed at the prospect of the 2008 elections in London and no it's not just the blond mop.

Fanning the Flames of Hatred?

Before we "tut, tut" too loudly about the morons in Sudan who have locked up a volunteer teacher for allowing a teddy bear to be called “Mohammed”, we shouldn’t forget we have more than our own share of home-grown religious berks. I’m not this time referring to Galloway and his Respect Renewal but rather to the new Christian Fundamentalist website “MegaMosqueNoThanks”.

This site appears to be run by a certain Newham Councillor, Alan Craig, from the “Christian Peoples Alliance” (CPA). His name and telephone number is on the press release.

What Cruddas Did Next

Got myself down to a new bit of the redrawn Dagenham seat on Saturday for some leafleting and got a decent interview out of Jon Cruddas. He confirmed that he had been offered a ministerial post in the reshuffle but didn't want to be contained. Cruddas is genial, chummy on the doorstep and thoughtful. The following was conducted whilst he was driving from Elm Park to central London, having his lunch (pie and chips) and talking into my tape recorder all simultaneously - talk about multi-tasking!

The Oxford Union, the BNP and David Irving

Below is the text of a message from Luke Tryl the current Oxford Union President regarding the invite that the Union has sent to BNP Leader Nick Griffin and Holocaust denier David Irving.

Was Geoff Hoon right to attend meeting organised by BNP councillor?

Last Friday Sadie Graham, a local BNP councillor in Nottinghamshire organised a meeting to discuss crime and policing.

The meeting was attended by local Labour MP for Ashfield, Geoff Hoon. According to the BNP website (the BNP are making a big thing of Geoff Hoon's attendance) the meeting was 'very lively and well received'. Indeed it states that  'Sadie was very surprised and thankful to Mr. Hoon for attending the meeting'.

What do you think? Should a Labour MP ever accept an invitation to a meeting organised by a BNP councillor? Has your MP ever done so? Did Geoff know who had organised the meeting? Does it matter?

campaigntv.org gets the BNP all hot and bothered

campaigntv.org update from gez.sagar@campaigntv.org

Campaigntv got its first nasty attack today.  The BNP have spotted our video about how they were wiped out in the West Midlands at the May elections.  Looks like we touched a nazi nerve.

BNP supporters have legitimate concerns says Tory frontbencher

People who vote for the far-right British National Party (BNP) have "some very legitimate views" on immigration and crime according to Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, the Tory shadow Minister for Community Cohesion.

What we have seen in recent years is the BNP developing a network of suburban supporters, people who are openly willing to admit not only to supporting a racist and bigoted political party, but to doing so with pride and patriotic fervour. Can pandering to the views of people like this ever be justified?

I just don't think it is sensible or desirable to have the term BNP and the word legitimate in the same sentence.

Holocaust denier to speak in Coventry

Supported by BNP thugs and bullys the notable holocaust denier, David Irving, is booked to speak at the Royal Warwicks Club in Coventry later this evening. I, like many others, have phoned the Royal Warwicks Club (024 7622 0425) to tell them how 'disappointed' I am that they have agreed to allow Irving and his supporters to book their facilities. Searchlight are organising a protest outside the Royal Warwicks Club, which is on Tower Street, Coventry CV1 1JS.

cruel and unusual disintegration of diss-Respect

To bring people up to date on the story so far: after a number of defections and rumours about internal arguments and rifts. The selection of a local “business wing” candidate for Respect in the recent by-election at Shadwell led to open war between the main Respect “Coalition” allies: Galloway and the Socialist Workers Party (SWP).

Nearly all the paid Respect Party officials are SWP members. This went from bad to worse when the SWP officials tried to force the Muslim Bangladeshi Respect Councillors to go on a Respect float at the 2007 Gay Pride parade!

Epping Forest Council By-Election: BNP standing - help needed

There were 6 BNP Councillors in Epping Forest, now one has stood down (for “business reasons”?) and there is a by-election on Thursday 30 August. In 2004 Labour lost two seats in this ward to the BNP. It appears that a number of BNP national organisers now live in the area – Eddy Butler, Julian Leppart and convicted terrorist and Jew beater Tony Lecomber (as in far right photo - hopefully being nicked for something serious - his quote “The sick minds who would have us believe that Jews were gassed at Auschwitz are completely twisted). Delightful crew!

Hodge, Housing and Henry

One aspect of the Hodge affair which has not received attention is the fact that Margaret's husband, Henry, is involved in immigration decision making.

Tories lose control of Thurrock and BNP go nowhere

Update: Great news from Thurrock - The Tories lost overall control of the Council and the BNP were given a good "kicking" (in the democratic sense of the word - even though retired members of Red Action may have been about).

A May Day Evening with Ken

Last night after the march I went to the annual trade union, May Day reception, laid on by London Mayor, Ken Livingston, at City Hall, SE1. It was held in the "London Living Room" which is on the 9th floor of City Hall. It has brilliant views over central London and the Thames. There is an open air balcony and you can see for miles.

The place was packed (200 odd?) with the great and good of TIGMOO. Ken lived up to his reputation of being a good host, lots of lovely grub and a drink or two. There was a good presence from London UNISON (See picture with TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber).

Ken gave a speech first. Concentrating about the London Assembly elections next year (2008), the threat from the BNP and the lies that they tell (e.g. during the local council elections last year in Barking, the BNP spread the lie that Ken was giving £50,000 to every African who wanted to move to that area). He made a good point that there is a lot of cynicism amongst the public about what "politicians" say (I would agree to a point). However, many people will trust what their trade union and shop steward says. So if the union tells its members, don't believe the rubbish that the fascists are putting out, members are more likely to pay attention. I think this is largely true.

Brendan gave a thought provoking speech about the role of trade unions and the way we have to adapt to our modern day society. Which I suppose was a lead to Tony Woodley, Joint Secretary of the brand new union UNITE which was born on May 1. UNITE merges the Transport & General (whom I use to be a member and shop steward) and Amicus (who I also use to be a member). UNITE is now probably the biggest trade union in the UK. Tony is a fluent and natural speaker. I could see in him now as the former convenor in Vauxhall's car plant, Ellesmere Port. It was interesting that he expressed regret that Ken was no longer a MP, since he would have has his support as a candidate to be the Labour Leader! Ken's face beamed unabashed. However, I am certain he must play the game "what if" from time to time (don't we all).

Due to UNITE, there are various rumours about what UNISON and the GMB will do in response. I teased the GMB Tower Hamlets branch secretary yesterday that UNISON and the GMB were about to merge. He replied "never in my life time, never in my life time!" He's like me, a young chap (okay, okay - mid 40's is now young). Maybe so. However, I do not expect there to be a stand alone "GMB" or "UNISON" in 5 years time. We live in interesting times. Why can't we have single industry/service unions?

All in all, an excellent end to an excellent day. Tomorrow morning (taken day off), I am off with a car load of East London comrades to Thurrock, Essex to help out in the election. Good practice, since the BNP are fighting all their seats.

Good luck to all Labour candidates tomorrow.

Facebook and the BNP

I have written a piece on Commentisfree that warns about the rise of the BNP on Facebook. Already BNP activists are commenting on the article in a deeply disturbing manner. I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Alex

Tories and the BNP could be future allies?

The Tory party and the BNP could become future allies? This is the view of Paul Newman, the vice-chair of Islington Conservative Association.

According to Mr Newman:

'I see UKIP certainly and possibly the BNP is it develops away from its unacceptable genesis , as allies of the Conservative Party.' He goes on to argue that: 'There is a place for working class nationalism in this country and the Conservative Party have abandoned it . I just feel uncomfortable when the middle-classes talk of the BNP like lepers.I confess is not an entirely resolved disquiet but there it is . As far as their racism is concerned I have better reasons than most for fearing it. So there you go . The BNP has some nasty people in it but I cannot forget that some decent people vote for it and I think the Conservative Party should try to understand why.'

As the Daily Pundit has put it - perhaps we should now hug the BNP, not hoodies!
