Dad's Army Remake?

It might be a bit of an understatement to say that we haven't had the best of it in the last three months and as an avid reader of this site I must confess to recently chuckling when reading posts that seem to move from "Don't Panic" to "We're Doomed".

With this in mind, if the BBC were to bring back a remake of Dad's Army, who from either cabinet would you cast in each of the roles.

I'll start the ball rolling with David Milliband as Pike for his recent transgretions...."stupid boy".

Re: Dad's Army Remake? (#1)

Too tempting...

You Have Been Watching In Order of Appearance...

Captain Mainwaring (Gordon Brown)

Mainwaring is a pompous, blustering figure filled with a somewhat overdeveloped sense of his own importance

Sergeant Wilson (Jack Straw)

Wilson is a carefree, generally cheerful, well-spoken man, although his personality is more complex than first meets the eye. He has somewhat of a mysterious aura about him and can exhibit a streak of deviousness.

Private Walker (Alan Johnson)

Walker, a spiv, considers himself a ladies' man, and possesses keen improvisational skills and cunning

Warden Hodges (John Hutton)

Hodges views the Home Guard as ineffective old men, and thus often tries to take charge of important situations. However, as he also displays something of a cowardly streak, should the matter prove in anyway dangerous or threatening to his life and limb, he is often quick to transfer command back to Mainwaring and preferably withdraw to a safer point.

Private Frazer (Douglas Alexander)

Frazer is frequently negative and hyper-critical of his superior officers and their decisions. When given even a little bit of power, however (or even just the taste of it), it frequently goes straight to his head.

Private Godfrey (John Denham)

Godfrey is a gentle, mild-mannered and kindly - though more complex than is evident - old man. The oldest member of the platoon, he is the only member that has retired.

Lance-Corporal Jones (John Prescott)

Jones is known for a number of eccentric traits, such as using long rambling explanations and anecdotes whenever he wants to make a point (which could usually be summed up in a sentence anyway). He is also invariably one step behind the rest of the platoon in any drill manoeuvre. He often makes far-fetched suggestions for the platoon, such as advising that they chop off the German prisoners' trouser buttons, on the grounds that if they escaped, a group of German men walking through the town with their trousers around their ankles may cause people to "raise some inquiries".

Private Pike (David Miliband)

Despite being in his teens and verging on manhood, Pike is very naive and often acts childishly, possessing quite a limited grasp of adult issues

Mrs Mavis Pike  (Polly Toynbee)

Mavis is fiercely overprotective of her son, and often treats him like a child - making him wear a scarf on parade in all weathers, and often interrupting parades with complaints about Frank's health and welfare. Although fussy, she is essentially kind-hearted, and even takes in an evacuee from London.
