Examine your soul...

A bit of fun to lighten the mood!

I saw a link to this short political quiz over at conservativehome and I tried it out and I was surprised at the answer's accuracy given that it asked less than a dozen questions. It was bang on! Apparently you can ignore the US bonus questions without affecting your results.

Try it if you dare - you know you want to. If you have the nerve, publish your result.

Re: Examine your soul... (#1)

Left of Centre, directly in the middle of Authoritarian and Libertarian - pretty acurate i'd say.

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 70%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 40%.
(Scores falling on the Centrist border are counted as Centrist.)
According to your answers,
the political group that
agrees with you most is...

.
CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.
Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,
tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what
they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

Re: Examine your soul... (#2)

 "...pretty acurate i'd say"

Yes - I find it a little frightening that it can be deduced from so questions. It classed me as a Libertarian

"LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties."

Re: Examine your soul... (#3)

Libertarian also here. Which about sits right for my attitudes.

Re: Examine your soul... (#4)

Personal score was 80%
Economic score was 40%

Re: Examine your soul... (#6)

So what did that class you as? Did you think it was right?

Re: Examine your soul... (#8)

Left of centre. Very accurate.

Re: Examine your soul... (#9)

Left of centre. Very accurate.

Re: Examine your soul... (#10)

Left of centre. Very accurate.

Re: Examine your soul... (#5)

The test is well known to be inaccurate, biased if you like.  It's a recruiting tool for laissez-fairism, not an honest analysis!

Re: Examine your soul... (#11)

" It's a recruiting tool for laissez-fairism, not an honest analysis!"

Scored you as a tory then?

:-)

Re: Examine your soul... (#12)

No, it called me a liberal.  But it is ridiculous to have a whole quarter of the pie labelled 'libertarian'- and for socialism to be completely unrepresented.  The results from the test are skewed in favour of making you a so-called libertarian- the disproportionality in the results of people who have taken it can be seen on the site itself.

Naturally, the free market does not represent liberty, but this isn't the place for such a debate. :D

Re: Examine your soul... (#13)

It is AIUI primarily an american thing. I would expect socialism to be covered by "Left liberal" and part of "Big statist" both of which, in the US, mean socialist / communist. Our UK "Liberal" would be "Centrist" to a Yank whereas a Tory would be in "Right" and part of Liberatarian.

Re: Examine your soul... (#14)

The description of liberals is bordering on : "Liberals like eating babies heads."

Re: Examine your soul... (#15)

"Liberals like eating babies heads."

Eh?

Re: Examine your soul... (#16)

It was a joke. Sometimes PC namby-pamby commies like me like making jokes.

Re: Examine your soul... (#18)

" Sometimes PC namby-pamby commies like me like making jokes."

I see.  Ho ho ho.

I have to say that I've never thought of you as a "namby-pamby commie". I shall adjust my views accordingly.

:-)

Re: Examine your soul... (#19)

That was a nice moment.
I just think that's how libertarians in America often see Liberals, and I was mocking that by saying....ah never mind.

Re: Examine your soul... (#7)

For the people that know my views, the following will be a shock:

The RED DOT on the Chart shows where you fit on the political map.

Liberal

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 70%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 30%.

According to your answers,

the political group that
agrees with you most is...

.

Liberal Box

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal

matters, but tend to support significant government control of the

economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation

of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,

defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action

to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

What!! I disagree with half of that.

It's libellous!

Re: Examine your soul... (#17)

Evidently I'm a centrist

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 50%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 30%.

Tosh!

Re: Examine your soul... (#20)

How is that possible!?

Re: Examine your soul... (#21)

"Evidently I'm a centrist... Tosh"

But you're very, very close to the edge. You could be "Left" or "Statist"

I've since found another one that ask 6 pages of questions (about 10 per page) and the questions are more "ambiguous" and require a bit more thought. For instance "Military action that defies international law is sometimes justified." the obvious answer is no, but then I thought of Mugabe and I wouldn't care if he was "illegally" removed. Another was "Although the electronic age makes official surveillance easier, only wrongdoers need to be worried." which on the face of it seems reasonable...

It took me about 5 mins to do to be classes as a social libertarian.

It is at http://www.politicalcompass.org/test

Re: Examine your soul... (#22)

I've taken this test twice now, and I'm proud to say I came out exactly the same!

Re: Examine your soul... (#23)

Classic example of supposedly objective questions being used to deliver predictable results. Just look at the questions! They certainly don't give a realistic coverage of UK politics. Also, look at the website of the folks who set the quiz. Obviously no agenda there.

Re: Examine your soul... (#24)

Did you do the test?

Re: Examine your soul... (#25)

Re: Examine your soul... (#26)

Just tried it Floating Voter and got this

Left again

My previous test (comment #7) showed me on the left as well.

Now then. Either these tests are way out OR I really am a left-wing Labourite and the rest of you have hijacked the Party to further your own liberal and authoritarian agenda.

See how others would have fared:

Others

If I am in Ghandi territory, where does that leave New Labour supporters?

Please post your answers if you can be bothered taking the test.

Re: Examine your soul... (#27)

OK. Here's mine. Very similar to yours...

Re: Examine your soul... (#28)

I did it again, pretending to be Gordon Brown and this was the result:

Gordon Brown's alleged graph

It's very close to ours, Floating voter.

I don't know if that scares you as much as me or if it proves the software used to make these graphs is corrupt.

Re: Examine your soul... (#29)

"I don't know if that scares you as much as me or if it proves the software used to make these graphs is corrupt."

Or it proves that you don't know how Grodon would answer. It's only a bit of fun - don't get too intense

Re: Examine your soul... (#30)

eek!

A little bit more liberal and a bit more to the right of floating voter but very close to that point.

Perhaps we should have every party leader subjected to a series of psychometric tests that we can all see, a bit like a job interview.

Re: Examine your soul... (#31)

Oh I got that a bit wrong. I'm economically where Barrack Obama is and a little bit more liberal.

I quite like being a sligtly more liberal version of Barrack but you lot are a right bunch of commies, no wonder you don't like Gordon according to this analysis.

This surprised me. Particularly if you scroll down and see how far Labour has drifted. I'll post this as a separate blog item
