Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#1)

God, how much longer can this go on?? Even after all the negative press the Tories have received this week they are still above 40%! On who is trusted on managing the economy the Tories are way ahead (and) rising. Only 21 months until the last date at which a general election can legally be called. Very depressing times indeed.

Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#2)

Governments haven't come back from 26% defecits, but they have come back from 13% defecits.

Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#3)

Only 13 points?  Pshaw, victory is clearly in sight.

Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#4)

LOL. It is funny that we celebrate such a poor narrowing of the polls.

But still, people should remain calm. Remember that in 2000, we went from about 20 points ahead of the Tories to being 8 points behind and then after a few months 20 points ahead again - and that was during our Tone's "walk on water" period.

OK, we'll never be 20 points ahead again - but a lot of what we're seeing in the polls is simply fright from the population regarding what they read about the economy and what they actually experience regarding fuel prices. Lots of people polled have deliberately switched their intention to yank the government's chain. When it comes to the election they will decide for real whether they really want Britain to be like the Boris run shambles, and the results will be different.

P.S. disappointed to see that the thread on Boris' travails ("Questionable Deputy, Shambolic Mayor" by For The Union), has been removed from the recommended list - our Tory visitors pressing the "don't recommend" button to surpress the story. Can Labour people please recommend the post again?

Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#5)

The problem Labour has with this poll isn't necessarily the voting intention, but the questions beneath

 - 75% think Gordo is a loser
- 60% of labour voters in 05 think he's a loser
- 67% think he's weak

Tories have a 13% lead in who would run the economy better.

Those are figures to be worried about.

Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#6)

Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#7)

Beautifully argued, couldn't have put it better myself

Re: Populus put Labour 13% behind Tories (#8)

The real margin of error of these polls is about +/- 5%. So we shouldn't read too much into a single poll. It may be a trend but it probably isn't - it's too early to say.
