The cost of Boris Johnson's Transition Team

Another brilliant spot by Tory Troll

Tory Troll is the best Boris-watch bloggers out there. His latest post is on the cost of Boris Johnson's transition team. I can do no better than to quote an excerpt from his post:

Quote:
Boris Johnson today admitted that the total cost of the 'transition team' of consultants, Tory HQ fixers and PR spinners is likely to be well in excess of half a million pounds.

The admission contained within his written answers to Assembly Members comes one week after he suggested that the cost would be less than half of that amount.

Speaking at Mayor's Question Time, Boris told the assembly that the transition team would only cost £213,000.

However, it is now clear that this only refers to the cost of the fifteen people employed within the Mayor's office.

Because what Boris admitted today is that there are another seven hitherto unacknowledged 'transition consultants' working elsewhere within the GLA.

The total cost of all 22 consultants is now thought to be anything up to a maximum of £565,000.

End Quote

It looks like the London taxpayer is paying through the nose for Tory friends and fixers.

Meanwhile, Boris's deputy for policing says he hasn't ruled out cutting police numbers, and £12m cuts were announced across the GLA - read more about it here.

Am glad Tory Troll is putting in all this effort recording what goes on in London - the Tory administration in London will give big clues as to what will happen if the Tories get into national government.

Re: The cost of Boris Johnson's Transition Team (#1)

It is constantly reported that Johnson leaves much of the Mayoralty legwork to he backroom staff. Among them, Nicholas Boles and others are going to be heading back to work with Cameron over the next few months.

It seems likely that the kind of amateurism we've seen around the Ray Lewis affair and this smoke and mirrors over expenditure will be replicated by an incoming Cameron government.

Re: The cost of Boris Johnson's Transition Team (#2)

I'm amazed that the mainstream press isn't giving much coverage to all this. £12 of cuts is significant, especially when Boris is happy to use taxpayers money to pay his friends.

Loads of the country is under the impression that David Cameron would actually spend more than Labour on police and other things! Completely false, as we can see from London.

Re: The cost of Boris Johnson's Transition Team (#3)

That should say £12 million of cuts. £12 wouldn't be so bad...

Re: The cost of Boris Johnson's Transition Team (#7)

Since when did spending more money on something automatically make it better?

Re: The cost of Boris Johnson's Transition Team (#8)

prbo - I entirely agree with you that spending £500,000 on Tory party fixers is a WASTE OF MONEY. And I also think that it is reprehensible that Boris increased fares for poor londoners trying to get to work, to pay for the bungs to his friends.

But why are you as a Tory not writing furious letters to Call-me-Dave about this?

As for the £12 million in cuts - Bullingdon dave and his pal Boris promised no cuts. Indeed Dave is promising to spend more than Labour on all sorts of things. Promising to spend more and then cutting is called Fibbing. That's why this is important.

Tory Troll's fast becoming a bright light in the left blogosphere.

He (?) deserves a high placing on Iain Dale's blog list. Hope everyone's voting.

Yes. And what we need is Scottish Labour bloggers to take Alex Samond and the SNP apart in the same way. Come on Scottish Labour! Get blogging.
