Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#1)

Love those comments on Little Wail's blog - one moment it's new labour sticking the knife in, the next it's lefty agit-proppers sticking the knife in!!!!

Basically, although I think she's a total disgrace to the party for several reasons, the local party have voted on this now and if some of them don't fell like campaigning for her at the next election I'm sure they'd be most welcome to join in in anaother constituency :)

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#2)

I thought her performance over the London Mayoral elections were quite frankly a disgrace, and that she whistled dangerously close to breaking Labour party rules. That said, I have always believed that she is a good constituency MP and often has the most insightful comments out of the dregs of ex-ministers.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#3)

Forgive my ignorance but I can't see anything on that agenda about deselecting her.

The first motion calls on her to resign as Johnson's advisor and concentrate on being the local MP.

I'm not sure Mr Dale understands Labour Party rules. Unless she is expelled from the party by the NEC (which doesn't seem to be on the cards) then the only way she can be removed as a candidate is in the trigger ballot, which she survived this time.

Maybe I've missed something?

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#4)

Why does anyone think pushing Kate Hoey to defect to the Tories would be in Labour's interests?  She is one of the most liked an respected of all Labour MPs by the general public.  Why not drive out Frank Field while you are at it?  Can you imagine the headlines?  Labour would be lucky to get 80 seats after the next election.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#6)

She is one of the most liked an respected of all Labour MPs by the general public.

Any evidence for this? Most people wouldn't have a clue who she is.

Personally, I'd be happy for her to leave. She's knifed Labour in the back, she's continually failed to back many of our main stances (such as on fox hunting and the EU) and she even had the cheek to give tacit approval to Johnson's campaign.

Good riddance!

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#13)

Labour will be lucky to get 80 seats anyway.  But sticking with Hoey - she is an excellentt constituency MP who understands that her first duty is not to represent Labour voters, not to represent the Labour party,  but to represent the wishes of the majority of her constituents on the issue of the day irrespective of whether it's at odds with party policy.

It's a shame there aren't more MPs like her instead of the garbage spineless little droids, careerists and apparatchiks we have ended up with.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#14)

Doing casework is one thing and politics shouldn't intrude in that role, but her other job is to promote the Labour Agenda, and sell that agreed Labour message to her constituents, by persuasion or other means. There are sometimes matters of conscience, and that is allowed, but to actively promote a Tory Johnson by going on his team, is a different matter altogether.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#15)

This is completely wrong, constitutionally.  She is not paid by the Labour Party but by the taxpayer and she is accountable to her constituents and no-one else.  This is why people who defect (eg Sean Woodward, Quentin Letts) are allowed to keep their seats.  Though IMHO defectors should hold a by-election if they do.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#16)

We stopped having independent minded MP's since the
C18. We now opperate a Party system and MP's sign up to their respective Party Manifesto and take the Party Whip. If Hoey wants to resign the Whip, like Clare Short did, then she's entitled to do so and sit as an Independent. What she can't do is flout major Party policy and give succour to the Opposition.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#5)

"the most liked an respected of all Labour MPs by the general public."

By the Tory supporting Countryside Alliance thugs maybe.

Everything this evil woman does is designed to damage the Labour government because the one objective of the Countryside Alliance. which she chairs, alongside a Chief Exec who is a Tory PPC , is the downfall of the Labour government and the repeal of the Hunting Act by Cameron.

She is a thoroughly nasty piece of work who should have been booted out many moons ago for her traitorous behaviour.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#7)

Labour go around employing old Tories and the CBI fat cats and it's all ok, but if she goes to work for Boris all hell breaks lose, how about Brown going then.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#8)

If the worst comes to the worst, I'm sure there'll always be a place for her in the DUP or UUP.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#9)

There is nothing on the GC agenda that seeks to reopen the de/reselection issue. The local party have made their choice about a candidate at the next election and that ought to be good enough for those who say they support local party democracy.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#11)

Exactly - she was unanimously reselected in early 2007.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#10)

Here we go again - Hoey's enemies in the local party (who only turn up to GC meetings when theres a chance to criticse her) will run over all the arguments we had in May (outlined here http://www.labourhome.org/story/2008/5/29/184129/255 ) yawn yawn yawn

Come on people lets move on - Johnson is in power for the next few years we have to work with him, its better that we have our person there than a tory appointee.

Re: Kate Hoey - Another Deselection Attempt (#12)

"tory appointee."

Isnt that Hoey anyway?!

As for democracy, the odious Hoey chairs an organisation, the CA, which shows a particular disdain for the democratic process.
