thatcher state funeral

thatcher state funeral

the reason I do not vote Labour anymore is that it is indistinguishable from the Tories.Thatcher was an enemy of everything that made Labour better than the Tories. It is disgusting to spend public money honouring someone who promoted self interest to the prime motive in society.

Three dead cats and a trip to the council tip! (#1)

I agree. The people at HQ must have put him up to this to see whether there is anyone left in the Party who still listens to him. Anyone who lived through the 80s could only see this as an insult to everything that all we Party members fought for.

Re: Three dead cats and a trip to the council tip! (#2)

All this is a bit premature. Lady Thatcher must have had a heart attack when she read the headlines on Labourhome that plans were already being discussed about her funeral. A State Funeral is simply out of the question, because she is not of Royal blood and polarised the country into 'haves' and 'havenots'; she left a legacy of gloom and decay behind her and relegated Britain to a second rate power industrially.
I can see demonstartions building up along th Mall and Whitehall should this suggestion go forward.

Re: thatcher state funeral (#3)

I don't think Labour is indistinguishable from the Tories, for various reasons. But I don't think we should have a state funeral. Although, after feeling angry yesterday, I'm more inclined to think that I'm against it, but that I don't really care.

Re: thatcher state funeral (#4)

Love her or loathe her, she changed this country from a moribund, debt ridden joke to a much more dynamic economy. She made mistakes and I didn't like her, but her changes are still evident today.

I dreaded her getting in. With retrospect I dread to think what another five years of Jim Callaghan would have done to us.

Erm...

Debt ridden?

It was Callaghan's fault that she got in for buying into the IMF crap and delaying the election.

Re: thatcher state funeral (#6)

Debt ridden?
Are we really talking about this right now when the chickens on our credit cards are coming home to roost?

Re: thatcher state funeral (#8)

Ironic isn't it? At least we've avoided the IMF..... so far....

Re: thatcher state funeral (#9)

Oh, I'll think you'll find that Thatcher went to the IMF more than any other British PM:

She turned the IMF from a foreign aid organisation into a Thatcherite cabal. They ruined Russia, which has had serious repurcussions in allowing fascism to be back on the rise.

They ruined Argentina, but luckily, they have a series of workable and profitable co-operatives.

And they've ruined Iraq. The economic damage they've inflicted is terrible. Iraq wouldn't have embarked on mass privatisation and flat taxes if we hadn't told them to. If we had 70% unemployment, different ethnic groups would quickly start turning on each other.

Re: thatcher state funeral (#10)

Well then - it's as well we've avoided them...
