Australia's new Labor PM criticises Iraq invasion

A welcome contribution from Australia's new Labor prime minister, Kevin Rudd, who has accused John Howard of misleading the public and abusing intelligence information to justify the invasion of Iraq. Australian combat troops are now being withdrawn.

Rudd said, "Have further terrorist attacks been prevented? No, they have not been. Has any evidence of a link between WMD and the former Iraqi regime and terrorists been found? No. Have the actions of rogue states like Iraq been moderated? No. After five years has the humanitarian crisis in Iraq been removed? No, it has not."

Re: (#1)

A shining example for a British Labour PM! You know things are bad when Kevin Rudd comes across as a firebrand leftie in comparison to Brown & Co.

Re: Australia's new Labor PM (#2)

It's actually very telling that in most other countries, the debate about the Iraq war has been a straight left-right debate.  Whereas in Britain that debate has taken place almost entirely within the Labour party.
