A "good year" for Gordon?

According to the BBC: Alan Johnson hit back at Mr Brown's critics, insisting the prime minister had had a "good year".

Words almost fail me. If this is a good year - what on earth would a bad year look like?  Does Alan Johnson care at all about his credibility with the electorate?

The only senses I can make of this, other than that Johnson is having a laugh, are:

a. The first 12 months may have been bad, but the next 12 will be appalling.

b. He's has a "good year" to show his worth as PM, and now...

For an insight into what is really going on in No 10 (or "the bunker" as it is now known in Whitehall) have a look at this in the FT.

In fairness I believe he meant in terms of the long term decisions Gordon is making.

Not saying I agree with that assessment but he wasn't on about everything, just long term decisions.

Any clues on what these fabled and oft-repeated 'long-term decisions' are?

Is there nothing they won't try and spin?

Interestingly the FT and others are now reading Johnson's remarks as an attack on Gordon (not a Centre Court player)
