Ann Lucas standing for the NEC

Dear councillors and members,

My name is Ann Lucas, and I am asking for your support to elect me to the ALC section of the National Executive Committee.

I have been a Coventry City Councillor for 12 years, a party member for 30 years and a union member all my working life - I am presently a member of the CWU.

During my time at Coventry I have held Cabinet positions in Social Services and Culture & Leisure, and am currently shadow member for City Development & Regeneration. I have also recently been elected to the leadership team of the LGA Labour Group, as a Member at Large, and so have frequent contact with Labour leaders and councillors around the country, and vitally with Government ministers, pushing the case for strong Labour local government at the highest levels.

I believe that local government is crucial to delivering our party's domestic policy programme, and it is vital that we retain strong representation on the NEC.

The future is a challenging but exciting time for Labour councillors - we can be under no illusion as to the task ahead, but we must remember that we are here to build a stronger and fairer Britain, to create strong, safe and active communities, and to do everything in our power to keep the Tories and LibDems out of office, locally and nationally.

I would be proud to be a voice for Labour councillors on the NEC, and would do my utmost to bring the issues that affect local government and our Labour councillors right to the heart of the party.

Your support for me is vital if we are to keep the NEC strong - ballot papers will be circulated shortly, and I urge you to give your support to me, and encourage your councillor colleagues to support a strong voice for Labour in local government.

Ann Lucas

While only Labour councillors are able to vote for the ALC positions on the NEC, I welcome any party and union members who want to join this group and show support for my candidacy.
