Boris goes nuclear

Paris is in it. Berlin is in it. So is Rome. So are Los Angeles and Sydney. And about 2000 other cities around the world.

But London is no longer a member of Mayors for Peace following Boris Johnson's decision to withdraw.

The organisation was set up and is still run by the office of the Mayor of Hiroshima.

Re: Boris Johnson withdraws London (#1)

I suspect Rome may be withdrawing soon...

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#2)

Obviously this is just stage one - the next step will be Boris' demand for an independent nuclear deterrent for London - just in case Leeds tries to bomb us again

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#9)

Oi!

Leeds kicks ass you southern fairy. Well we did until we were relegated, several times.

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#4)

Hate to break the consensus here, but good for Boris.  What does the group do, precisely, that makes it so important to be a member?

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#5)

Probably bugger all, it's just symbolic really. It's like saying "We're going to ban Remembrance Day because the minute silence interferes with productivity".

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#8)

Lol!  Fair point.  If he was trying ban Remembrance Day, that might be an issue, but as it's an organisation I've never heard of I don't think it'll trouble my sleep too much.

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#6)

"Hate to break the consensus here"

Oh really?

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#7)

Absolutely - it was so cosy...

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#10)

Never heard of "Mayors for Peace" doubt I will again either.

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#11)

"I..I..I...ooh, dear...Hiroshima...not so bad...stupid Japs..."

next day

"Boris in new controversy-slur against Japanese people" headlines appear over papers.......

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#12)

At first glance I thought it was 'Boris goes unclear'... which wouldn't have been very newsworthy.

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#14)

Haha!

Re: Boris goes nuclear (#13)

Steve Bell has a very nice take on this in the Guardian today - http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/cartoon/2008/jul/01/boris.london08
