Boycott Haltemprice and Howden by-election!

This is a stupid by-election stunt.  Terror is an issue for the nation as a whole - especially urban areas - not a single Tory-held parliamentary constituency.   It shows their contempt for representative democracy and the capacity of parliament to make decisions.  The vote goes against them so they squeel and call for a plebiscite.  It is a waste of public money, and we shouldn't give it any significance by contesting it.

No. Boycott Henley where we don't have a chance; let the Lib Dems have it. Fight Haltenprice.

Re: Boycott Haltemprice and Howden by-election! (#2)

why?  we wouldn't have a chance of winning this under any normal circumstances, let alone on the issues Davis is running on.  Our position should be the defence of representative democracy and criticism of cheap plebisicite stunts.

Re: Boycott Haltemprice and Howden by-election! (#3)

We shouldn't play any role in this farcical PR stunt by self-indulgent Davis.

MESSAGE TO THOSE AT LABOUR HQ: DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT FIELDING A CANDIDATE!

Every by-election costs a huge amount to the British taxpayer.

The only reasons why Davis would be doing this is to get some extra PR for the Tories (which is a disgraceful abuse of a Parliamentary resignation) or he's trying to get a dig in at Cameron.

Either way, it's an exceptionally dishonest and unprincipled stance from a man who has even called for bringing back the death penalty. He's certainly no defender of civil liberties.

Let Labour take no part in this, and let David Davis become a one-man show, embarrassing and undermining Cameron at every stage.

Re: Boycott Haltemprice and Howden by-election! (#4)

Also Labour would be better not to waste money on a worthless by-election at the moment.

Re: Boycott Haltemprice and Howden by-election! (#5)

Agreed, it's a stupid stunt and nothing more.

Re: Boycott Haltemprice and Howden by-election! (#6)

Leave him to it. DC should hang him out to dry when he’s returned.
