Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey

It appears that Lee Jasper is considering a challenge to deselect Kate Hoey. Irrespective of people’s views on Jasper I am increasingly wondering if Kate Hoey is really someone suited to being a member of the Labour party.

Having opposed the ban on fox hunting called for people to vote for Ian Paisley’s DUP, sat on the advisory group of the Tory ‘I Want A Referendum’ campaign aimed at unseating Labour MPs in marginal constituencies and most recently given sucker to Boris Johnson's Mayoral campaign, one questions whether it is time someone challenged why exactly she is in the Labour party.

I had meant  those urls to be references but don't know how to do that my apologies!

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#2)

i agree that Kate Hoey should be deselected, but i'm nots sure if lee jasper is the one to do it!

Hoey should be deselected and kicked out of the party. she is a disgrace.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#3)

Good luck to him.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#4)

She's been reselected by her CLP with all but the last of those "crimes" public knowledge at the time of her reselection. I'm not sure the members in Vauxhall are going to wish to see their decision overturned because she agreed to take a position from a non Labour Mayor in exactly the same way Diane Abbott and Glenda Jackson did when Ken was elected as an independet in 2000 (where was the clamour for disciplinary action against either of them at the time?).

That Jasper isnt even aware that she has been reselected rather suggests he's not really that serious.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#5)

Hoey is a disgrace.

I well remember how Labour MP Dan Norris was assaulted and his assistant punched by pro hunting thugs after doing a TV interview not far from where I live.

A day or two later the odious Hoey stood on a platform near the same village where this attack took place and applauded as speakers from her so called Countryside Alliance (including the Vice Chair Tory Peer Lord Mancroft) called members of her own party 'bigots' and called for the downfall of the government. Not once did she condemn the attack on Dan.

At the 2005 election her hunt thug friends were busy trying to disrupt the democratic process by harassment of anti hunt Labour MPs and indeed of their constituents. At one point arc lights were shone in the faces of elderly people leaving a meeting Dan Norris had organised and stones were thrown by the pro hunt rabble. I witnessed dozens of other incidents like this.

The whole aim of the CA is to remove the Labour government from power so the Hunting Act is overturned.

I would say also that Tory Hoey is a security risk, given the information Labour MPs have access to on strategy, inner workings of party and so on. That she chairs an organistion that has direct links to a campaign to get pro hunt Tories into power should be of great concern.

We should lance the nasty boil of Hoey once and for all, the majority of decent minded people will thank us for it.

She is the enemy within.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#6)

Time for Hoey to leave I think.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#7)

Its time up for Hoey. But Jasper should disappear for a while; a long while.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#8)

We should simply go by the rule book. Her intervention in the mayoral election seemed unwise and possibly against the party rules.

And yet, I cannot be the only member of the party to have felt uneasy about the ban on fox hunting - essentially from a point of view of civil liberties, and I do not regard Hoey's views on that as a crime.

In general I think MPs out to be a bit easier to deselect, but it would seem that Hoey has already been reselected by her party and surely it is primarily up to her CLP.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#9)

Yes Free Radical, you are right: these should be matters left to a CLP to decide. Unless of course you are a disgruntled leftie in which case you should be entitled to demand that the democratic process within a CLP of which you are not a member should be overturned because you dont happen to like an individual MP (it would seem). In that case, can someone please re-open the selection in Hackney as I dont like Diane Abbott very much.

Re: Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey (#10)

Kate Hoey is very popular with voters in her constituency, and easily won the trigger ballot.

Lee Jasper may have done great things advising Ken Livingstone on racial matters, but he has not been active in the constituency, and his political genius is not of such a level that many members would wish to rescue him from oblivion. Indeed, I believe that even those who would like to see a Black Member of Parliament representing Vauxhall would jib at the thought of choosing that one.

Also, the results of the recent local government elections would suggest that this is no time to unseat a candidate with a massive personal following, which might not transfer to a pro-war, no hunting, Love-the-Rich-and-Powerful New Labourite.
