Last chance to drink on the tube
From Sunday 1 June 2008 drinking of alcohol on the tube and buses in London will be banned by new Tory Mayor Johnson. He believes that by banning alcoholic drinks for the short time of the journey he will tackle drunkeness. And this is from the "freedom loving" Boris
This is a fundamental restriction of our rights to do what we want (ok not a major one but annoying all the same).
Of greater concern is the fact that it will not tackle the problem of drunkeness which is in most cases caused by people who are drunk before getting on the transport (and who can presumably presently be ejected from the tranport/ fined for public order offences if they cause problems). It will also not stop the determined drinkers who will carry on regardless.

To mark the introduction of this law there are events planned across London this weekend - see http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2008/may/16/circle.line.cocktail.party
