London's Hangover from Hell

Misplaced crosses

I wonder how many Londoners will wake up this morning and wonder what it is they did one drunken Thursday in May 2008.  May they accept responsibility for the consequences and may I survive the results inflicted on me for the next four years.

Re: London's Hangover from Hell (#1)

i understand how you feel, i really do. boris twat-johnson isn't my idea of fun either. but don't blame londoners for this mess. blaming the voters is suicidal and it is misguided.

people vote on what they see. i do not believe londoners voted for boris - after all apart from the clown act there is so far very little to him. what they voted for was change. they saw a listing, directionless government led by a calculating, cynical, monumentally disappointing prime minister and they voted to tell him they'd had enough. as have many of us.

if there's a blame game to play, don't look down on the voters look up to the man at the top. he and he alone is the root cause of boris, of meltdown in the town halls and of a resurgent tory party.

Re: London's Hangover from Hell (#2)

I agree that throughout the country, voters voted for change more than for individuals. We seem to have some inbuilt genetic fault which means we long for change after a finite period of time. Also, the younger generation of voters, those who don't remember the Thatcher era, they scare me. They have been raised in relative prosperity and stability, and have no idea what life was like trying to stay employed in the 80's. Those young folk of my acquaintance universally think Boris' election is a Jolly Good Thing, and good riddance to Ken.
It's so depressing.
