Banned Tory trolls

I have recently banned a couple of Tory trolls from this site, a process that entails deleting every contribution they have ever made.

One of those is "Letter from a Tory", who has made his frustration clear here.

Tories are suffered on these pages for as long as they are polite and constructive and I'd be grateful if readers would alert me if they feel contributors are exceeding their welcome.

Many thanks

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#1)

Thats a wee bit heavy handed is it not? - people are entitled to their opinion...even if they are wrong and tory.

Most people are smart enough to spot a troll when they see one.....let them have their fun; its not like we care...

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#2)

It's not heavey handed at all this site should be Labourhome not Torytrollhome

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#16)

To be honest though, the Tories and right-wingers have virtually the entire blogosphere as theirs. I like having an oasis for us more progressive types.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#20)

I thought the point about politics was to try and convince people who don't agree with you to agree with you?  That's what elections are about, isn't it?

Simply speaking to people who agree with you is pretty boring - let politics be about dialectic and debate, and welcome those who disagree with you!

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#21)

Prbo, I would have thought that the fact that you haven't been banned is an indicator that I agree with your point

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#22)

Thanks alex, it's appreciated!  My point was to Anonymous X, not you though...

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#23)

Well in that case, there's pleanty of scope for us to disagree with ourselves on these pages without inviting trolls to take part  ;)

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#3)

I wouldn't have considered Letters from A Tory a troll but am certainly glad "madasafish"/"thickasafish" is gone.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#6)

I agree that Letters from a Tory is not a problem. I have noticed that there seem to be various other Tories spending a lot of time on here.

Are we becoming sad and lonely Tories home? Do these people get ignored by their own party and come to us because we pay them more attention?

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#7)

Or, similar to ConservativeHome they come here to debate the politics?

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#9)

Like I say, I don't require any writers to agree with me. There are plenty of Labour writers here for a start that I disagree with.

But when it comes to politeness, Tories get reduced latitude and anonymous writers get less latitude

People can come here to challenge us, but gloating is just rude.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#10)

I agree about the gloating. I did take one of the Trolls up on it pointing out that all of the numerous Tories that spoke to me at the recent election count avoided it.

Anyone actively involved in politics soon gets to learn that agree with them or not that it pays to be civil to people from other parties because there comes a time when you need to work together to get things done for your local community.

If any of the Tories who come on here just to wind us up want to progress in politics and achieve something worthwhile then they need to learn this.

As I previously stated all the Tories I know who are successful in politics have always been polite and respectful towards me.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#24)

Agreed.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#4)

Still here.
And personal abuse suggests you've lost it.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#5)

You think I've 'lost it'? Mate, I think you grossly overestimate blogging power to even mildly annoy...

I think your comments are glib, uninformed and don't add any value.

Conservative commentators add a lot to the debate often and it's great to have them here but I also seem to remember you writing that you thought Labour voters were all parrots.

That's a troll remark - if I'm wrong, I apologise (but I'm certain you wrote that).

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#14)

Its useful to know what the Tories are currently thinking; reading their stereotypyical comments often confirms my own Labour values and principles. But sometimes its good to be exposed to the viciousness of their attacks because it reminds us that Labour has an awful lot to do to persuade and change the behaviour and attitudes of many like them, out in the country.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#25)

I completely agree, and although I don't have a problem with banning trolls, wiping all their posts is a step too far (re-writing history and so on).

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#8)

The clearest evidence that this guy needed to be banned was the massive freak-out that followed.  IT'S THE INTERNET for god's sake.  Anyone who attempts to draw profound lessons from how an internet message forum is managed is clearly an idiot lacking a proper sense of proportion and sanity.  Good riddance.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#11)

I occasionally comment at ConservativeHome. When doing so, I always understand that I am a guest at someone else's function, and try to conduct myself accordingly.

(I have a bit more fun with LibDemVoice but that's because the Lib Dems aren't a serious political party)

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#12)

I have given up with LibDem voice. They spend all their time arguing about themselves and they are 15% of the vote and completely insignificant.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#13)

What's a troll?

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#15)

What's a troll?

I think they live under bridges and try to eat goats.

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#17)

..and Hobbitses

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#26)

..and Hobbitses

Not sure, however does anyone else think that Nick Bourne in Wales looks like the unnatural offspring of gollum and Mr Bean?

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#18)

Limony, a troll is Internet slang for someone who posts rude or irrelevant messages in an online community with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion (according to wikipedia!)

Re: Banned Tory trolls (#19)

I don't think they are real trolls after all real internet trolls steal personal details and then ring you with threatening calls at least thats what was happening on youtube a couple of years ago,i think these torys are more interested in flaming which is more about just trying to piss us off..i think we should just ignore what you don't like and don't take them to heart,we have to get a more coherent argument our side and not just ban the tory "scum" (couldn't resist that one) however much they get on our tits
