Is conservative home really that dry?

Why are there so many tories commenting on everything here?

As the name of the site suggests it is a 'Labour' discussion forum, why then are so many tories (regularly) commenting on every other post, knowing that people will disagree with them.
Have you got a lot of spare time on your hands, are you looking for an intelligent debate, an insult war, a fight,or are you bored with fighting other tories on conservative home so you migrate to our site and comment here?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be rude I'm just interested as I'm sure many others are.
Anyway, this will probably be my last post till June because of exams, so I just thought I'd raise an isssue which has interested me for a while before I start frantically making notes and answering past papers.
See Ya soon.

Don't you find it a bit boring always talking with people who agree with you?

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#2)

I just like winding Trots up

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#3)

Before anyone replies with an indignant 'define your terms, who are you calling a trot', etc. response - remember, he likes it!

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#5)

That's alright. Whenever I post on ConHome / Iain Dale / Guido, I enjoy winding the neo-cons up too.

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#4)

It's nice having somewhere to talk mainly to other Labour members/sympathisers about the party but I quite like hearing from other people as well. I'm glad every blog post isn't hijacked by supporters of other parties but if someone's got a serious critical thing to say about the party/government, it could be useful to bear it in mind.

The internet and these forums have facilitated the most  conducive environment in the history of mankind for people to discuss topics, issues and understand more about how and why people disagree.

Wasting the oppportunity, some morons like to come here for a pointless wind up and some of our idiots go over there for pointless troll work.

It's a shame but there we are.

To be fair, there are a few very interesting Tories that come here - so I hope they continue to feel welcome. I (and I've seen other Labour supporters) have often posted on ConHome and, generally, find people to be refreshingly engaging.

You know, maybe, just maybe, decent and intelligent discussion might become the rule rather than the exception on political blogging and people may start learning from one another...or am I being to hopeful?

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#8)

Quite right, Tony.  LabHome should be flattered that people are taking it seriously enough to be posting on it, even we disagree with most of what we read.  There's no point preaching to the converted - anyone can do that.  The whole point of politics, I thought, is trying to win people who disagree with you to their point of view.  You can't do that without engaging with your political opposites.

What this site should avoid, and I think ConHome does this reasonably well, is becoming a ranting forum where people simply air their prejudices, rather than having serious debates.  anyone can throw cheap shots - what we need is serious reasoning and argument, with people open to criticism.  From my perception, LabHome is getting quite good at that.  Keep it up!

Hear hear!  You know who you are...

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#7)

Saint Nye said all that needs to be said about Tories.

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#9)

I hate sitting in home and simply chating about others.

Re: Is conservative home really that dry? (#10)

Well, I only just came for the first time, because I always like the comments from "Passing Lefty" and "Northern Monkey" on Conservative Home. The only offputting aspect to LH I've found so far is that your software doesn't work well at all on Mac OS. I'm wondering if this explains the relative prevalence of Tory vs Labour blogging; maybe you're too Windows based while we on the centre-right wing our way into the bright new future on the back of our lovely open-sourced Apple computers so that [continues in same vein for three excruciating Apple-geek days] [Any chance of some politics? - Ed] [Umm, probably not at half ten].
