Vote Tory and get the BNP?

Last April I posted about Luke Mackenzie, a Tory candidate who was standing in the British National Party (BNP) target ward of Basildon in Essex. Mr Mackenzie had been accused of peddling scare stories by suggesting that people who wanted to stop asylum-seekers being given council houses should vote Conservative. The Times reported that Mr Mackenzie's future as a Conservative candidate was 'hanging in the balance.'

Guess what? Luke is standing for the Tories in this year's election - this time for the neighbouring ward of Vange. Here are a few of Mr Mackenzie's thoughts and observations (taken directly from his website):

Luke on Crime: 'Ever heard of the saying cut off the head and the body will die. Try the hand instead.'

Luke on the NHS: 'The NHS has the money it needs, but it's mis-spent. Targets should be scrapped and the money saved from administration costs, that come with the targets should be spent on Doctors, Nurses, hygiene etc.' Does anyone understand this? Does it make any sense?

Luke on housing: 'Local council housing for local people, not asylum seekers.'

The fact is that Luke is still a candidate for the Tories and he is still (if his website is anything to go by) peddling scare stories by suggesting that people who wanted to stop asylum-seekers being given council houses should vote Conservative.

Perhaps it is a case of vote Tory and get the BNP?

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#1)

Luke McKenzie is a nasty piece of work, as are most Tories.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#2)

I wish you and the rest of my friends in Basildon all the best in keeping this low life and all other undesirables standing in Basildon this year out off office.

Good luck from Angelina, Rayleigh and Wickford CLP.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#3)

as are most Tories.

Would you care to substantiate this allegation?

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#4)

If you believe in capitalism then you're a pretty nasty piece of work in my book.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#9)

Lol!  That's hilarious!  That includes Ken then, doesn't it?  And the Labour Government?

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#10)

Yep, pretty much. You could make an argument that Ken is just working with what he's got but I'd have the government up against the wall pretty soon come the revolution.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#17)

Oh for gods sake. The best social democracies, are essentialy capitalism with a human face. Capitalism is a necessity. It has helped create freedoms. The best form of capitalism, is the economic policy of democratic socialism. Communism guarantees state capitalism. Conservatism can be libertarian and lassez-faire. Democratic Socialism or Social Democracy should ensure that as long as workers get sufficient rights, and we get universal healthcare, public education, redistribution of wealth, and a progressive taxation system, and regulation, not distortion of the free market, than I don't really give a damn.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#6)

If you are a Tory can you honestly say that this particular candidate's comments present a good image of your party. I personaly do not think all Tories hold these kind of opinions. I think perhaps that this person maybe better off joining the BNP as the post implies.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#8)

No, they don't.  One person's opinions don't stand for the party's.  That's reasonably obvious, I would have thought.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#11)

Members of the Party that go against policy or are an embarassment to the Party should be disciplined or expelled. To allow McKenzie to remain is for the others to condone his actions and his views. The Tories in Basildon have not expressed any regret at his views. In fact, his Agent Tony Ball has put words in the mouth of his young protegee McKenzie. That is why the Tories still remain the nasty Party. They will use any repellant tactic to win themselves votes a few votes.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#12)

Speaking of which, did you agree with Ken Livingstone when he said the Poll Tax riots were pretty much the same as Tiananmen Square?

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#13)

"Members of the Party that go against policy or are an embarassment to the Party should be disciplined or expelled."

Quite right.

Expel Kate Hoey.
Expel Ken Livingstone

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#14)

There's a case to be made against Kate Hoey; but Livingstone has redeemed himself, and is back in the fold.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#15)

Livingstone is back in the fold

Did I mis-hear him the other day?

"It doesn't matter what party label I wear, I've always been an independent."

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#16)

Does that include all the Ministers who have repeatedly ignored official Labour policy (as decided on several occasions by the supreme party policy-making body, Conference) on council housing and nationalisation of the railways?

I for one would love to see the back of all of them.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#19)

Hazel Blears : keep my hospital open.
Then votes in HOC to close it.
Bunch of hypocrites..

Ditto Post office closures.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#5)

British jobs for British Worrkers..

Typical BNP claptrap.

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#7)

Well Labour believes in capitalism, plus the Tories who do you vote for. problem is we have two main parties right now who are standing on the same idealism capitalism

Re: Vote Tory and get the BNP? (#18)

One of the biggest fallacies in politics today. 'Asylum seekers are pushed to the front of the que in healthcare and housing rights'. Nonsense. Where is the evidence? No evidence is ever provided. Also, why is there a great deal of innuendo in being indiscriminate of who's an asylum seeker, and who's an economic migrant/immigrant?
