Boris risks empty chair from Today Programme
The Today Programme is reported to be threatening to ‘empty chair’ Boris Johnson after he repeatedly turning down invitations to be interviewed. Hat-tip to the Mole.
His Tory minders are said to be worried that, under scrutiny, the Conservative Mayoral wannabe will make further gaffes. Johnson was repeatedly asked to confirm that he had underestimated the cost of his bus scheme, reporting an £8 million, rather than over £100 million.
The empty chair interview could go ahead with the other Mayoral contenders because, under electoral law the BBC must give him the opportunity to participate, but don’t need him to do so.
The no-show would be seen as a major embarrassment and vote of no-confident in Johnson’s credibility.
