UNISON National SGE Elections - London region

As well as the GLA and other Council elections taking place across the land, there are also some fairly important UNISON internal elections taking place.

UNISON is divided into 7 Service Groups. These elections are to elect regional members of each National "Service Group Executive” (SGE).

In London Region there are only two contested elections for regional delegates. For Health and the Local Government service groups.  My ballot papers came through the door this morning.

In Health there is a London centre left slate – Layla Rumble, Bill Beekoo and Rachel Voller.  All are also UNISON Labour Link supporters and active Party members

While I (John Gray) am standing for the London Local Government General Seat with Irene Stacey who is standing for the Female Seat.  Both of us are Labour Party activists as well.

If you are a member of UNISON in London, please consider voting for us.  Standing against us are candidates supported by the “United Left” (which is dominated by the Socialist Workers Party), the Socialist Party and an independent.

Re: UNISON National SGE Elections - London region (#1)

John, thanks for your post.  I was voting for you, but I nearly didn't vote in the women's section as both seemed to be trots, but I will take your word for it that Irene is a Labour activist and will support the link.

Re: UNISON National SGE Elections - London region (#2)

However, David Eggmore, a sitting NEC member, who John is standing against, is also a Labour Party member I believe.

Isn't it also the case that John Gray was in the Liberal Democrats and only joined Labour a few years ago?

Re: UNISON National SGE Elections - London region (#3)

Hi Matthew

David is a member of the UNISON SGE not its NEC.  I don’t know whether or not he is a member of the Labour Party (I would be surprised).  Yes, I did leave the Labour Party (over Tony Blair of all things) and mistakenly joined the Lib Dems.  I rejoined the Labour Party in (I think) 2002.

BTW – I also use to believe in Santa Claus.
