Blairite spin by the darling of the left

The local Nottingham newspaper - the Evening Post - is reporting on a last ditch effort by Alan Simpson to help with a smooth handover between him and his preferred heiress Christine Shawcroft in Nottingham South.

Please have a look at the story here. Alan's comments are phrased in such a way that it looks like he is standing up for agrieved members, when in reality he is trying to stop anyone apart from him choosing who is good enough to replace him.

Re: Blairite spin by the darling of the left (#1)

Bull**** spin by someone trying to undermine the left.

Re: Blairite spin by the darling of the left (#2)

I thought those kind of endorsements (councillors, CLP office holders or other MPs supporting certain candidates) are quite common in selection contests.

So, yes, it looks to me quite like a spin effort ahead of the vote.

Re: Blairite spin by the darling of the left (#3)

Alan Simpson's little media trick failed.
Lilian Greenwood won the selection - sensible centre-left for the constituency rather than Campaign Group headbanger.

Re: Blairite spin by the darling of the left (#4)

Alan Simpson's little media trick failed.

It was mainly against Bull (who was supported by the Council leader) not against Greenwood.
Maybe he should have concentrated on Greenwood rather than Bull.

Re: Blairite spin by the darling of the left (#5)

Typical lefties im afraid.

Re: Blairite spin by the darling of the left (#6)

Didn't see a problem with this article, to be honest.

Re: Blairite spin by the darling of the left (#7)

It wasn't spin, it was just comment.

I like the way the fact that various sources, blogs, newsletters, etc. can bang on accusing CS of being a Trotskyite, and a whispering campaign can be started up suggesting her selection wouldn't be approved by the NEC (not to mention some more malicious things to which I won't give the oxygen of publicity) without any charges of 'spin', but a fairly innocuous chat to the local paper gets people in a lather.

Anyway - Neither my candidate nor 'southside's' were successful.

Alan Simpson has been an excellent MP, and a great champion for democratic socialism and the environmental agenda, and this fairly pathetic attack thread is pretty damn pointless.

In the mean time, congratulations to Lillian; commiserations to Christine (and Katrina, indeed).  I hope Christine finds another seat, as she would be an asset to the PLP.
