Defence Committee Must Consider Nuclear Policy.
West Midlands CND urges the Defence select committee to address nuclear policy in its forthcoming report on the future of NATO.
The Defence select committee chaired by James Arbuthnot MP is considering the report of its inquiry into ‘the future of NATO, a comprehensive analysis of the Alliance, its role, purpose and prospects, considering what role NATO should play in the future of UK and European defence,’ prior to its publication next month.
Despite the statement made in its terms of reference the analysis contained in the report could be less ‘comprehensive’ than promised, despite evidence having been provided to the inquiry by groups such as BASIC and Acronym it does not cover NATO nuclear policy, missile defence of US nuclear missile bases in Europe.
West Midlands CND is conducting a letter writing campaign throughout March calling on the Defence select committee to provide and answer as to why nuclear policy was not covered by the report and calling for the evidence provided by BASIC and Acronym to be included in the final draft of the report, if necessary calling a final evidence session to make sure their evidence is included.
