Wendy Alexander Cleared

Scottish Labour leader Wendy Alexander will not be prosecuted for the donations she received.
Its nice to see the genuine relief and smile on her face.. hope she can now refocus on tackling the SNP.

The ‘interesting’ thing is that whilst BBC News 24 is covering her press conference live and has been for some time, SKY News is giving its full attention to the fact that Premier League games can be played overseas… with not so much as a ticker mention for ‘wee wendy’.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#1)

Good. It would have been a travesty of justice if it had gone the other way.

Indeed! More interesting will be how the right will say its an example of media bias in the BBC rather than a demonstration of Sky's commercial interest in the expansion of Premier League.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#3)

SKY said that there was insufficient evidence to charge, whilst BBC said she was cleared.... glass is half empty stuff!

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#5)

Excellent news.  Perhaps the media will now let a good Labour leader get on with her job.  Will raise a toast to you this weekend, Wendy!

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#6)

It wasn't that there was a lack of evidence. It wasn't that she was found innocent. In fact the EC admitted she probably broke the law. The EC declared it would not be in the public interest to proceed with a prosecution. So much when politicians are exempt from the law of the land.

If lawmakers become lawbreakers, then all justice dies. If I break the law the full force of the law will be brought to bear upon me. It should be no different for politicians - that goes for the lot of them.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#12)

PRECISELY

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#13)

The full force of the law on anyone that does something not permitted, even if accidental? A whole life tariff for  accidentally dropping litter? No, I don't think so. As far as law-breaking goes this does not reach the level of a parking ticket for overstaying your allotted time.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#15)

I'll respond only if you have the guts to put your real name to your comments. Your utter cowardice does you no favours.

I'll respond only if you have the guts to put your real name to your comments. Your utter cowardice does you no favours. This is what I said before but I'm going to repeat it because you obviously weren't listening the first time. Oh and by the way I'm a Labour councillor in Westminster and a published author and my identity is quite well known for anyone to find.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#19)

Actual debate is not possible until you disclose your real identity rather than play Zippy the pinhead.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#21)

No real name, no debate with you.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#23)

The second comment which you quote was written by someone else impersonating me and was not sent by me.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#25)

The moment I was aware that someone was masquerading as me, I protested and I was under the impression that Iain had removed the comments. See this comments thread for where the miscreant caused more trouble a few days later. It seems that Iain had missed this particular comment.

Quite frankly you are beneath contempt and your response here shows quite clearly why you don't dare put your real name to what you write.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#28)

Hugh, can you please assure me that you definately will be canvassing for the Conservative party at the next election?

I'm only asking, because it's people like you who ensure that we win election after election without fail!

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#7)

Another scandal for Alexander?

She starts to sound as a lame duck leader...Scottish Labour can't spend months and months defending their leader from investigations after investigations.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#8)

She starts to look like the victim of a witch-hunt. Note these claims are five years old, don't amount to a breach of any rules, and the Sunday Times' claim that two statements are in contradiction is flat out wrong.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#10)

Scottish press today (for ex The Sunday Herald) was almost even worse for her. It sounds as the "not guilty" verdict by the EC didn't fit their current agenda.

The problem IMO is that as long as this donations thing doesn't go away, it would be difficult for her to lead the party and concentrate in taking at SNP.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#11)

So you're not a Labour supporter and you just want to have a rant against leading Labour MSPs. Thank you and good night, please don't trouble to call again.

Re: Wendy Alexander Cleared (#29)

We're not prudish in the Labour party.

I know that for Conservatives, sex is something to be endured rather than enjoyed, but please don't assume normal people think like that.
