Who is the Tory frontbencher who pays his family?

David Davies' outburst today against Gordon Brown is a smokescreen to hide the Tories hurried scrabble to get out of the Derek Conway row.

Look at this: last week Cameron announced his FRONT BENCH would have until April to declare if they employed family members - ie: were guilty of the same misappropriation of taxpayers money as Derek Conway. That gave them two months to stop doing it and put their houses in order.

Today he changed his mind and said they would have until JULY to do it. Remember this is front benchers not back benchers, he isn't asking them to declare anything at all.

It looks to me like one of the Tory Front Bench is being protected from having to delcare something embarrassing - let's see if we can find out who it is.

Re: Who is the Tory frontbencher...... (#1)

I agree with pretty much all of this posting. I'd only really take issue with the assumption that anyone who employs family members is misappropriating public funds. Surely if they're actually working, then it's OK? Conway was guilty because his children didn't actually seem to be doing anything. Regardless of this, I'm sure it's right that time is being given for the Conservative MPs to hide the evidence, as it were.

Do you think any Labour or LibDem MPs might be on the same scam?

Re: Who is the Tory frontbencher (#2)

I noticed the delay in time but I presumed it was because they now have to declare more than originally planned. Wasn't it originally just family members and now its involving actual details of payements or something.

however, michael white from the guardian has also commented that this looks like David Davis helping out his old mate Conway by leaking it this week, after the worst week for the tories in a while.
