Unfit for purpose

Over many years of banging on doors to canvass voters you get to realise just how she stupid they are.

It is not a matter of the occasional verbal abuse from a loony supporter of a rival party. It’s the ones they give you the full benefit of their bigotry; and then tell you that they won’t vote for anyone.

It occurs to me that they want politicians which speak their minds. But whenever they do the media and the voters both combine to let us know about the splits, Governmental/political errors, and sleaze they perceived to be rampant within the political body corporate.

You then get the general griping on the doorstep of that "You’re all on the gravy train". But If you mention to them funding political parties out of general taxation the voter becomes deeply unhappy about the "You‘ve got your hand in our pockets again" political tax handout. But equally they dislike the idea political funding from unions and the political levy, or for that matter corporate industry. Also the thought of personal donations from individuals, is met with hostility.

They also clamour for things to be banned, yet any personal infringement of freedoms and they cry "police state". Many of them that are "idle" whinge the loudest about immigrants taking their jobs. But to be fair really they’re very busy being idle, what with all that binge drinking, irresponsible shopping on credit, and running up large mobile phone bills which are often used was when driving their 4x4s. And whilst we’re talking about driving, often voters have more than one car per family which knocks out a considerable amount of pollutants. Also would the voter be happy without annual long haul flight to for his annual holiday which does much to pollute the upper atmosphere. When there they get into all sorts ASBO deserving scrapes, to which thay demand consular support .

Then there is another type of voter. The voter who thinks that he is too smart for politics you know the sort. They digest the media but suffer political constipation. There are at the ones that "don’t like this, and don’t like that" and never see the global picture, quite often they hovering around single issue politics. At best they are the Hampstead Guardian-reading liberal, through to the Daily Mail reader (and we all know what we think them) This type boils down to people like to think pre-thunk thoughts

There is the young voter. These are the ones which are the scariest of the lot. Most them can’t string fore words together let alone consider who may govern them, and of course there’s students, Viz had this lot down to a Tee with the character Student Grant. The major problem with their young voters as they seem to be an endless supply of them. Stupid now and Stupid in later life.

Also there is the old voter. These are the ones that think it was better back in their day, when they had rickets and Hitler. They tend to think of themselves as the Guardian’s of purity of whichever party they support. Safe in the knowledge of what was right 50 years ago is right now. The best way to recognise this lot is by the wearing of the "Old school tie and blazer" on conservative side of politics and the "Cloth caps and mufflers" on the left. (not forgetting the whippet.) Fortunately most of this lot are harmless now, if verbose. Think of people who like Michael Foot or Margaret Thatcher.

Most voters have no concept of the political structure of the nation . The low membership of all political parties attests to the general lack of interest in any form of social responsibility. Yet they have never ever considered teaching their kids any form responsibility themselves, or have ever thought of doing something like joining a political party and making a difference whichever way there vague notion of politics is inclined. Yet it is with regret that these people hold sway the over the destinies of our to the (for the most part) responsible politicians. In a democracy like ours there is a duty of governments in which the political establishment essentially tries hard to make this a better land. There is no claim for unfair dismissal after the voters capriciously turn MPs/Councillors out of office

No politician of any party could say this, pointing out these things due to the simple fact that the British public are unused to the truth; that they are at best hypocritical, selfish, , crass, and utterly stupid. they are without any shadow of doubt unfit for purpose.

Re: Unfit for purpose (#1)

Quite possibly the best ever post on LabourHome! I agree with every word.

The general public really are incredibly stupid and testament to that is the fact that Boris Johnson has a 5 point lead in the London Mayoral race according to YouGov. You'd think that voters enjoy punishing themselves!

Churchill famously said "the biggest argument against democracy is a five second conversation with the average voter". Never has a truer word been spoken.

I'm glad this post isn't a rip-off of this article from the First Post, written in January 2008, and first noted by Kerron Cross on his blog...   http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/?storyID=13534

Re: Unfit for purpose (#4)

I did see it, but not in this guise. This type of skit has been around since the dawne of time. But it still makes a point.
