Cameron Auschwitz 'gimmick' remarks

Labour party is calling for an apology from Cameron on remarks he has made today in a speech, where he said that Government support for trips to Auschwitz was a 'gimmick', one of many used by Brown.

"Trips to Auschwitz" was listed as one of 26 'gimmicks' in a briefing note from the Tory party accompanying Mr Cameron's speech in Bolton.

The Tory leader was heavily criticised by Lord Janner, chairman of the Holocaust Educational Trust, who urged him to retract the accusation.

"The Jewish community will be deeply hurt and offended by this," the Labour peer said.

"It's a low form of politics which David Cameron must already be regretting. I think it's very, very important that he apologises."

Coming hot on the heels of him stressing Gordon Browns age of 57 (and by implication his youth) when wishing him a Happy Birthday in PMQs, is it a sign of a new kind of low politics from Cameron?

Cameron always hits below the belt - he's the stereotypical jumped-up little public schoolboy bully.

Re: Cameron Auschwitz 'gimmick' remarks (#2)

disgusting. I can think of may gimmicks introduced by the government, but I don't think this is one.

Re: Cameron Auschwitz 'gimmick' remarks (#3)

Fair and balanced as always NM.  Why do you think going to a public school should be an object of ridicule?  Is there something wrong with it?

And on the issue, crikey, you guys are seriously clutching at straws to beat the Tories with.  I not really sure what the issue here is.  I don't think calling this a gimmick can in any be considered some kind of slight on the people who lost their lives at Auschwitz.

Prbo - why don't you actually read the post before having a go?

I said he was the stereotypical public school bully - he fits the stereotype perfectly. I'm not the first person to say that, and I won't be the last.

A 'gimmick' is flying up to the Arctic to get yourself in a photo with a glacier; or cycling through London with a car following on behind. Visiting Auswitz and showing respect for the dead is not a gimmick. Every leader should vist Auswitz.

Re: Cameron Auschwitz 'gimmick' remarks (#6)

... and so should every European child just to understand what inhumanity means.
