Greg McClymont selected for Cumbernauld, Kilsyth & Kirkintilloch East

Greg McClymont has been selected yesterday as the new Labour candidate for Cumbernauld, Kilsyth & Kirkintilloch East constituency (where sitting MP Rosemary McKenna is retiring at next GE).



McClymont, the hot favourite since applications closed, won easily with Kerron Cross as runner up followed by 
Anoop Wallia and Maureen Tomison.

Educated at Cumbernauld High School, Greg McClymont has been a speech-writer for John Reid and now is a politics lecturer at Oxford.

Labour won Cumbernauld, Kilsyth & Kirkintilloch East at 2005 GE with a 29.6% majority over SNP.

I'm a bit confused. If the retiring MP was female, why wasn't this an AWS to select her replacement?
