Sion Simon's promotion

Alongside a post about Sion Simon I casually added a poll asking whether readers thought that the promotion was wise.

Here is the post:

Here is the poll:

I have never had such a response to a poll, especially on a post which got so little comment.

Any thought as to why people would react so strongly to the poll?

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#1)

Sion's got above average intelligence for an MP and is dedicated to our collective cause.

I didn't even read the original article, let alone vote, simply because the title was so obviously derogatory. Your poll voters were those for whom the antagonistic title was not a turn-off.

Sion was offered a job by the Prime Minister and he's accepted that job. It might be fairer to give the guy a chance before you criticise him.

He is a comrade after all.

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#3)

He may or may not be intelligent, but he's still a prat.

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#4)

True.

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#5)

where would we be if that were a bar to political activity?

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#6)

Look, it seems unbelievable to me that such a prat could be promoted.

Generally being an obvious prat is a bar to political activity that is why PLP candidates are generally not prats.

I am not willing to offer him my congratulations and I very much wish that he wasn't a comrade, let alone a bloody minister!

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#7)

On ConHome they weren't too impressed either. Their take was "He prefers cronies to ideas or talent: Losing or moving talented junior ministers, whilst promoting curry house conspirators and Quentin Davies. Reshuffle winners include Sion Simon and Chris Bryant; losers include Tom Harris,  Andrew Adonis and Malcolm Wicks"

Obviously they rated Tom Harris higher than Sion Simon. I'd say they got that one right.

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#8)

Good point. But Sion Simon isn't a prat in a Bevan-esque way, he's a complete buffoon.

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#10)

Did you just slag off Nye? You do realise you'll be expelled for that?!

Re: Labourhome readers oppose Sion Simon promotion (#9)

I agree. Did he, or did he not, ask Blair in parliament whether he would consider privatising the Beeb in the wake of the Hutton inquiry?

Re: Sion Simon's promotion (#2)

And I have amended the title to your piece. Labourhome is a brand we're trying to build up that is specifically antifactionalist.

Please don't misuse it counter to our aims

Thanks
