Brown has to listen to the unions

It seems to me with this lastest policy over the 3 year pay deals, Brown must listen to the trade unions.  In real terms most public sector workers are losing money.  We have brought in good policy such as the minimum wage as well as paterenity and maternity rights. We must make sure that our public sector workers are paid for the great job they do!

Depends what the Unions have to say. A 3-year settlement for the pulic sector seems fair to me.

Re: Brown has to listen to the unions (#2)

I rather think that the 2% this year, 0% next year and 1% the year after imposed on the DWP isn't particularly fair...

Re: Brown has to listen to the unions (#3)

For the better paid a 3 year pay deal might be a reasonable punt, as if they lose out to inflation they can cover the difference temporarily from discretionary spending.

But for lower-paid workers, with eg npower having just put up gas 19% and elec 13.2%, they have a real risk of their real income going down perhaps 10%, which would cause real hardship for families. I can't see how lower-paid worker unions could go for this, without some inflation get-out clauses.
