swats almanack says : spring is in the air

As they say, a week is a long time in politics, and Brown is recovering his bounce at PMQ's. Cameron is coming across as quite a hystrical old maidan. Straw says he has noticed a certain spring in his step. Well, Cameron is on the ropes over Conway. Its the same old Tory sleaze. At least their 'sleaze' is a lot more reprehensible than ours. But we have to be really careful. Scratch beneath the suface and I am sure you could find half a dozen Conways on either side of the House. I bet all MP's are a bit nervous at revealing all their financial 'arrangements' within the family. The point is Parliament is at fault; MPs are not accountable to anyone. We thought they were accountable to us, but thats not so. They are a law unto themselves because they make the law. Did I miss that they hadn't voted themselves a pay rise above that of inflation? or is that just wishful thinking.

swats almanack should also say that it's spelt 'swat's almanac'! Sorry!

But I agree with your post though.

Re: swats almanack says : spring is in the air (#2)

The Tories today are apparently considering proposals to ban children being paid by public funds to work for MP parents.

Is this not something of a knee-jerk response?

I mean I'm sure that the majority of MPs researchers are not recruited in a particularly open way, though that is  a separate issue.

But surely there is no problem in an MP's child being paid to work for them, assuming they are fit for the job and if they are working for them. The point about Conway's child (children) is that he wasn't doing any of the work he was receiving money for.

Very worrying that this looks like another blur.

There's nothing wrong with employing your family and paying them an appropriate salary.

We're talking about paying for someone who didn't do any work and at an inflated price.

We're talking about fraud, not nepotism.
