In 2005 Rosemary McKenna held the seat with a 29.6% majority over SNP.
2005 boundary changes created this new seat adding 27% of the old Strathkelvin & Bearsden to the old Cumbernauld & Kilsyth. In May 2007 at Holyrood level, Labour performed well in that area gaining back Strathkelvin & Bearsden and holding Cumbernauld & Kilsyth against a SNP challenge.
