Livingstone's Poll Ratings go up!

I knew the Evening Standard's little games would backfire on them.

In a new ITV / YouGov poll taken after the biased Dispatches programme, Ken's lead over Boris has increased from 1 point to 4 points.

Ken Livingstone (Labour) 44%

Boris Johnson (Conservative) 40%

Brian Paddick (LibDem) 8%

Re: Livingstone's Poll Ratings go up! (#1)

I have no paricular axe to grind on this election and didn't see despatches, but I do know that most polls have a and error of +/- 3%. I suspect as this one was carried out in haste that the margin of error could be even higher.

So a 1% change is well within the margins of error and nothing to get excited about.

Re: Livingstone's Poll Ratings go up! (#3)

It wasn't a 1% change - it was a 3% point change.

And I'm sure if the poll had gone in the opposite direction, you wouldn't be saying that.

The fact is, Ken has actually improved his polling figures since the Dispatches programme - that can only be a good thing.

Re: Livingstone's Poll Ratings go up! (#4)

erm.... so he could actually have a lead of 7% then?  Stop being so miserable...

Re: Livingstone's Poll Ratings go up! (#2)

YouGov margins of error are normally pretty small as they can handpick which of their registered users they survey.  What they may have done with this poll is re-contacted people they have already surveyed (rather like a tracking poll).

But whatever the survey sample, or margin of error, the fact that Ken's ratings have at worst held steady after the Dispatches hatchet job, is significant.
