LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE

I'm appalled to note the  level of personal vitriol being thrown at  John Wiseman in the wake of his decision to stand for the NEC.

He has absolutely every right to - but no I'm not his campaign manager. Nor did I influence  his candidature in any way
And let's get another  thing straight. I will  be voting for most of the CLGA candidates but I am not impressed by the way in which some  who normally spend their time campaigning for democratic procedures to be followed by the Party  have tried to justify the frankly undemocratic nature of the slate.
Indeed, so unimpressed is the Campaign For Socialism in Scotland  that it has now  disaffiliated from the Grassroots Alliance.
This is surely the last time  the CLGA  can run along the lines it has done  in previous years. Next time round, we need a proper left slate united in opposing New Labour  policy   and supportive of grassroots opinion.
In the meantime, I would urge the centre-left to use its votes  wisely. And stop launching nasty personal attacks. They do none of us any favours

Re: LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE (#1)

Quite right that Wiseman has ever right to stand - the fact that the CLGA has asked him to STAND DOWN is an absolute disgrace to the left and centre-left. As I have said elsewhere, I actually feel quite angry about this issue. I'm being expected to blindly vote for CLGA candidates simply because they are CLGA candidates. It devalues my vote somewhat, to think someone is taking it for granted that I'll vote a certain way. That should never be the way the Labour Party does things.

Re: LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE (#2)

I'm sure nobody is taking your vote for granted.  I do think you're over-reacting however.  Nobody asks you to vote blindly; but just as you can express your view here, others can express their views too.  There are comments on other threads that attack John personally and they are completely out of order.  But if people make a rational case for him standing down, then they're entitled to do so.  You and I can disagree, without getting too angry about it!

Re: LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE (#3)

Problem is that plenty of party members do not vote in these elections. Of those that do vote there will be some who have no idea of the politics of it all and how candidates emerge for this election.

Those people are not going to hear about the dispute over Wiseman are they? They will keep on with the faith not realising that those they cast their votes for claim one thing but do the other.

Re: LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE (#4)

Yes, next time around we need a better slate.

But I have to say that by promoting himself in so many Labourhome threads, Wiseman has not done himself any favours. I wonder if some of the vitriol is caused by this.

Fair point so I am trying to cut down

Wiseman

Re: LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE (#6)

Is Wiseman actually a real person? I'd assumed he was a made up character designed to poke fun at the hard of left.......

Re: LET'S PLAY FAIR IIN NEC DEBATE (#7)

Andy I am a real person, now what is your take on the NEC elections
