Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#1)

Good to see Yvette annd Caroline promoted to Cabinet. Now it won't look so boring.
Maybe Purnell can make Work and Pensions sound interesting. I hope Burnham gets more money for the Atrs and Sport.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#2)

Whatever you do, do NOT mention Peter Hain!

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#4)

Perhaps a Crouch gateway project. Where anywhere on this fine river gets lots of money spent on it.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#5)

Caroline Flint isn't actually promoted to a Cabinet Minister, just gets to attend (some?) cabinet meetings, as Yvette did before her promotion.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#8)

Sad to see Cooper leaving CLG - she has been dealing with housing in various roles and in the various manifestations of the department over the last four years or so and hads therefore built up lots of knowldge and is well respected by housing and homelessness charities. I hope Flint will be as good

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#3)

Good to see Caroline Flint get promoted - it's about time.

Must say, I don't particularly rate Purnell or Burnham.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#7)

I kind of know what you mean about Purnell, but I'm going to give him a chance - it's not Culture, Media and Sport gives him a platform to talk about the big issues. The recent stuff about sharing out the license fee (whatever you think of the policy) at least shows that he's prepared to think creatively.

As for Burnham, I'm liking him more and more. Sound on economics and speaks in a non-wonkish way. Don't agree with his comments on marriage and the tax system though.

I think both of them are of the left, but willing to challenge the shibboliths of the left. That's what's needed - especially in welfare reform

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#6)

Well they are all New labour thats for sure.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#9)

This kind of dismissive comment seems increasingly meaningless and divisive - I much prefer JMs comment above.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#12)

No, they're Labour. And that's all that counts.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#10)

I am more than a little nervous that housing has gone from the utterly brilliant Yvette Cooper to Caroline Flint.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#11)

Caroline Flint was superb when she had public health (including the smoking ban), and is a good Commons performer and communicator, so should sell the housing policies as well as Yvette Cooper was doing.  I think it's a good appointment.

Re: Reshuffle HEADLINES (#13)

I tend to agree. Their was always something of blackaddres "Queeny" with Yevette.  Caroline will tighten things up.
