Salford & Eccles selection result

Because of boundary changes which reduce the Salford number of constituencies to just 2, Hazel Blears (MP for Salford) and Ian Stewart (MP for Eccles) went head to head for the nomination.

The result, announced today, was:

Hazel Blears 174 votes
Ian Stewart 79 votes

So Hazel Blears will be the Labour candidate for Salford & Eccles constituency at next GE.
For Ian Stewart things may become more complicated now after having lost to Barbara Keeley MP the Worsley & Eccles South nomination, then failed to get on Bolton South East shortlist and now failed to win the Salford & Eccles nomination too.

Re: Salford & Eccles selection result (#1)

Well done to Hazel Blears; but sorry for Ian Stewart.

Re: Salford & Eccles selection result (#2)

I'm not sure where Ian Stewart can go from here; I can understand Worsley and Eccles South going for Barbara Keeley, as she seems to have made quite an impression since her election, but I'm mildly surprised that Hazel Blears won quite so easily.

Re: Salford & Eccles selection result (#3)

Well done Hazel. Good news for her and the party.

Re: Salford & Eccles selection result (#4)

This guy is on the express train to having no seat. Would you select a sitting MP who can't even be bothered to have a website?

Perhaps the fact that he had a big fat majority of nearly 13,000 had something to do with his phone number and surgery details being nowhere to be found on the internet.

Huge majorities and lazy MPs breed complacency. Thank you boundary commission!
