Nutter!!!!

Re: NASA's report indicates that the glacier ice (#2)

I suppose we could all get used to a nutloaf and 2 veg and mint sauce; but its going to be a struggle.

Re: NASA's report indicates that the glacier ice (#3)

John Gray's article on Comment is Free on Sunday about global warming was fascinating. He is the most important thinker in the UK today

Re: NASA's report indicates that the glacier ice (#4)

Not so sure John Gray's article is that wonderful. A great thinker would recognise that electricity generation is only a minority part of our energy use, and that known uranium resources extractable at reasonable prices are only sufficient for 85 years at current nuclear power usage rates (see authorative IAEA report). So a great thinker would realise that our current nuclear power technology can make little impact on the wider global warming problem.

My view is that we should continue nuclear R&D, as one day the technology will develop into a good safe power generation technology. But the present generation of nuclear power stations have too many problems and are uneconomic without significant subsidy. Our resources are better spent on other efficiency approaches, like insulation and CHP. But there is less profit in that for big industry, so we need to resist the commercial lobby.
