John Wiseman decision to stand after consultation

After comments by some comrades.  I am now convinced that I must stand

1 I feel I have the experience needed to shake up the NEC
2 Everybody who knows me will tell you I don't quite when comes to respresenting people

I am pushing for a progressive ticket, democracy, honesty and accountability, and someone who will support workers.  I am sorry I have to stand as a left independent, but we need change in the party and now.  I can unite the left and centre left better than most.  I am committed to getting this party back to its roots.  I ask you for the last time to nominate me.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#1)

John, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to say this.

I really don't think you need to create endless threads to promote your own career. I think one would suffice.

And from your comments, I wouldn't really class you as a 'uniter' either.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#2)

I agree I have made to many strings, but the end of the day when you are out of the slates you have to make a comment and respond to them.

Point taken though on the blog side.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#3)

John , this will break an age old tradition: the Left has always been divided; its its raison d'etraire.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#4)

As I was saying on Peter Kenyon's posting, I think Wiseman is a better choice - a Wiser choice if you will :) - than many on the CLGA slate.

The fact that one candidate may be prefered over another is fine, but I was annoyed by the suggestion from Peter Kenyon etc that Wiseman should stand down in favour of "left unity".

He is at least as legit a candidate as the CLGA slate, who are selected in a mysterious, closed-doors ritual. I say, if Wiseman is standing, he deserves at least as much of a hearing as the CLGA slate.

Good luck, John!

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#8)

On what basis is he better than many on the slate?

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#9)

Dear repub

Good point.  I would just suggest ask around.

Thanks

John

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#12)

Have you got a manifesto / statement you are circulating?

I've now seen the one from the CLGA but not yours.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#14)

I have a CV with detail

Would you like a copy

John

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#15)

Because he is there having not been artificially selected by the CLGA, having not been hand selected to receive votes through virtue of appearing as part of a slate, and because he has the honour to realise this and to stand himself.

I'm delighted you're standing John, and you'll be getting my vote.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#5)

I wish I had done this earlier.  The support I am getting is massive and is growing.  I appeal to the grassroots alliance to become more democractic, because that seems to the position of many.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#6)

What?

Are you doing this on purpose?

You'll never get my vote purely because of your arrogance.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#10)

I think the only arrogance on show in these elections is coming from the Grassroots Alliance and some of their supporters.

I am dumbstruck at how we can call for party democracy every year- at Conference, in elections and in our CLPs- and yet some of us on the Democratic Left are so small-minded as to call Wiseman arrogant for daring to stand against the CLGA slate.

It seems to me that the CLGA and some of their supporters are morphing into the pigs at the end of Animal Farm. There is more control-freakery coming from the Grassroots Alliance in these elections than there is coming from the Leadership!

Can someone explain to me why Wiseman shouldnt stand and why I shouldnt vote for him...?

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#11)

I'm not sure NorthernMonkey is even a CLGA supporter.

Just think he was referring to the line: The support I am getting is massive and is growing.

Re: Unification of the Left and centre left (#13)

I would like to focus on the election, and not personal attacks, then as a party we all lose.  Lets just focus on the elections.

I hope after this northern moneky and also leeds will work with us whatever the result.

Re: John Wiseman decision to stand (#7)

Dear Northern

You must be able to debate these things, I am sorry you can't feel you vote for me, but for me you will just end up with stagnation
