More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay

Comrade Brown should be reminded what he said in Bournemouth  2003. I was there. I clapped loudly. Was he just having a laugh, then? It certainly seems that way.

"After six years of government, I believe more than ever that the Labour Party does not exist for itself but for larger and noble purposes. I believe that at every point in our history, Labour needs not just a programme but a soul. This Labour party - best when we are boldest, best when we are united, best when we are Labour."

Three more Tories (including the latest, a  Conservative donor)  joined your team this week, Gordon. But no place in your big tent for democratic socialists who  might be a wee  bit to the left .
Anyone else  feel  like tearing up their card????

"Anyone else feel like tearing up their card????"

No.

I disagree with some of the things Brown does, but leaving the party is not an option for me, ever.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#6)

Quite right Northern Monkey; what we've seen so far is so much better than the latter Blair years, and if I can survive through that I can survive through pretty much anything.

I doubt whether there will ever be a leader with whom I agree 100%, but following the example of a number of my local councillors and ex-councillors who have failed to recognise their own failings and spat the dummy out of the pram because they have lost their seats is not what I call grown-up politics.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#2)

It hard plastic - you can't tear it.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#3)

"Best when we're boldest" i.e. not settling back into comfortable old dogmatic positions.

I'm glad to see that Brown isn't doing that.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#4)

"comfortable old dogmatic  positions" - like, er, having  integrity and sticking to principles.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#7)

I find it funny that you quote the "best when we're united" bit of the speech while comparing him to Ramsey McDonald. You've lost it.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#8)

I think you've missed the point.....four years ago brown was  calling for a  return to LABOUR values -not courting the Conservatives.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#9)

But many of us believe that the Blair and Brown governments did/do on the whole represent Labour values, albeit implemented in a very different way than in the past.

Re: More Nightmares From Gordon Ramsay (#5)

Ah but JM...you suggest that the "old dogmatic positions" would be a change of course...

Surely the comfortable thing for Brown is to maintain the neo-liberal consensus, rather than make a bold challenge to the market philosophy.

Of course, he's just as much a neo-liberal as Blair was. So I wouldn't expect anything different.
