Labour Democracy looks at an end

Dear comrades

I must comment urgenlty on the contemporary motion going through conference on the best way to consult labour party members (don't fall for it).  If we lose the way we send motions to conference, we lose the opprtunity to hold the leadership to account.  I feel this meglomania by the back door.  The unions had emmense pressure put on them and the leadership (I know) think they will win (just).  Just think that the future of the party could be hands of models which follow the NPF (National Policy Forum - oh what hope).  Vote for democracy and vote for the right of collectivism and not indiviualism!!

Yes, why don't we go back to those days in the 1960s and 1970s when conference passed all sorts of loony resolutions and then the Government did bugger all about them? That's much better than today when major new policies like NHS Direct emerge through the NPF, or where
the Government agreed to extend the minimum wage to 16 and 17 year olds after NPF pressure.

Re: Labour Democracy looks at an end (#2)

Good point.

Re: Labour Democracy looks at an end (#3)

In a few years time the conference will be just a talking shop, only supporters with a role will attend - PLP, NPF exec and councillors.  No actions will be taken, no accountability will happen and the unions will be destroyed in favour of big business.

This is so reminiscent of animal farm where power corrupted absolutely.

New Labour have confirmed this week that they have lost the plot, lost their identity and lost the confidence of the membership.

Re: Labour Democracy looks at an end (#4)

The PLP is not and should not be only accountable to the party members and Unions. They're accountable to the public too. These proposals simply reflect that fact.
