Congratulations James. You seem like a decent fellow. All the best.  Was it a close run thing?

Well done James!  ;-)

It was a well-deserved victory - you worked hard to gain the selection and I have every confidence in you. Now the hard work starts...

Happy to help you in any way that I can mate, you know that.

Well done again.

Re: James Alexander wins York Outer selection (#6)

What counts as York Outer?  Is it a lot of John Grogan's old seat?  (Askham Bryan and the like?)  Congratulations, anyway, and let me know if there's anything former Yorkies can do to help :o)

Re: James Alexander wins York Outer selection (#7)

York Outer is a suburban and rural doughnut-shaped constituency around York, and contains large chunks of the old Selby, Vale of York and Ryedale seats.

There are no Labour Councillors in the seat at all (nor much prospect of any at the next set of local elections), and much as I enjoyed the odd drink with James when we were both York students, I would be very surprised if he (or for that matter any Labour candidate) came anything but third.

Personally I would welcome a strong Labour campaign in York Outer, as it will eat into the Liberal Democrat vote in places like Fulford and the University campus in Heslington, making Julian Sturdy's task so much easier.

As I said on Facebook James, many congratulations but I'm afraid I can't wish you good luck!

Re: James Alexander wins York Outer selection (#8)

York Outer contains the following wards: Bishopthorpe (currently in Selby constituency), Derwent (Selby), Fulford (Selby), Heslington (Selby), Dringhouses and Woodthorpe (City of York),  Heworth Without (currently split between City of York and Ryedale), Haxby and Wigginton (Vale of York), Huntington and New Earswick (the majority from Ryedale, but around 2,000 voters in Vale of York), Osbaldwick (Ryedale), Rural West York (currently split between Vale of York and Selby), Skelton, Rawcliffe and Clifton Without (Vale of York), Strensall (Ryedale) and Wheldrake (Selby)

Re: James Alexander wins York Outer selection (#9)

I've heard in 3 predictions that the Lib dems will win it, the Tories will win it, and Labour will win it. What are the actual notional boundaries?

(And well done James)
