Has anyone else left it this late to book accommodation in Bournemouth?

Are there still hotels and b&bs still available?

Is staying in places like Ringwood viable?

Like i suspect many people i like to leave things to the last minute but am starting to panic about accommodation for next week - is it worth ploughing through the long list of b&bs on the Bournemouth tourist office website, ringing each one or have they all gone?

 Any tips/ advice gratefully received!

good post - i'm getting very hacked off with ringing places up only to dicover that they are fully booked. Can find travelodge places apparently miles away but little in Bournemouth itself

May have to consider train London to Bournemouth each day!

Rule 1 . If you are going to Labour Party Conference, book in January.....there isn't any such thing as last-minute accommodation.....

Re: Has anyone else left it this late... (#4)

Last year in Manchester I was able to book a room the day before going - admittedly in a travelodge  (or similar i forget) but within a five minute walk of the venue. It was also the place where the police protection squad officers were staying so it was interesting to overhear their conversations at breakfast

Why do we keep holding conferences in these quaint little seaside resorts where the facilities are inadequate to say the least?

Conferences should be held in cities where there are better transport links, bigger venues and more accommodation. Manchester was a good choice. They should also try Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff etc. Move things round a bit rather than the regular stale Bournemouth, Brighton, Blackpool circuit.

Some places going still ... in Salisbury YHA. Come and join me!

I'm not a fan of Blackpool but it does have a huge amount of cheap accommodation.

I like Brighton but still think Manchester was the best experience overall.

I went to a Spring Conference in Glasgow once and thought that was ok. How about Yarmouth or Clacton for a change? Or Sherringham, Hunstanton and Cromer?
You're right, members haven't experienced the delights of East Anglia yet.

Depending on your budget Bournecoast have a couple of holiday flats available in Boscombe which is a (longish) walk to Bournemouth.  You have to book from Saturday to Saturday, but it can work out cheaper than a hotel.  They will send you the keys so you don't need to stay Sat to Sat.  If you are sharing even paying for 7 nights can work out cheaper than 4 nights in a hotel...

http://www.bournecoast.co.uk/  - click on 'holidays' and do a property search for Boscombe (nothing left in Bournemouth).  I am not being paid a fee to promote them btw...

Re: Has anyone else left it this late to book? (#7)

I believe last year the hotels started releasing the rooms the party had block booked because they weren't getting paid for them. So a lot of last minute rooms became available. Perhaps that's the secret!

Also worth trying www.laterooms.com particularly if you are just looking for the odd night.  I think they only advertise what is actually available.

Some comrades were trying to book for Manchester, starting several months ago. In 2005 I went to Brighton with nothing booked - an expected lodging with old mate fell through - and as well all kinds of offers at high rates I ended up with two nights in GMB hotel (they had block booked with people coming and going) and three nights sharing with a delegate from our region who had a bit of a suite but no accomplice. Region announced it at a meeting and it was sorted quite quickly. I did spend quite a bit of time tramping round though and that is not recommended. Tony Benn also arrived with nothing booked! With a tent. He too was rescued. Staying in London or en route isn't such a bad idea.
