Lib Dems Call for a Referendum on EU Membership

Ming

Ming has said, “Let's have an honest debate on the European Union followed by a real choice for the British people. That means a referendum on Britain's membership of the EU.”

In 1975, Voters backed the UK's continued membership of the European Economic Community (EEC), as it was then called, by a large majority, in the country's first nationwide referendum.

I thought the Lib Dems were the most pro-European of the mainstream parties. It seems I was wrong or times have changed.

I think Ming’s call will be seen as a further lunge to the right and will surely concern the older SDP members. Could we see pro-European defections to Labour?
